I thought IP didn't allow dairy in general because of their lactose content (sugar).. If that's the case, hard cheese (or aged) which hardly has any lactose, should be allowed provided it's not too caloric, right?

I miss cheese - and I'm only on day eleven!

Quote from the IP Clinic manual - "During Phases 1 & 2, dairy products with 0% fat are not permitted, they contain lactose: i.e. have sugar and calories"

It has to do with the milk sugar and concentrated calories rather than the fat content. Hope this helps. As far as the vegan cheese, that is somthing you would need to check with your coach about.

I bought the veggie cheese while in phase 1 and ate 1 slice. I threw the rest of the pack in the garbage. I tried to feed a piece to my mom's dog and he turned his nose up at it.

I miss cheese and dairy horribly. I understand the lactose = sugar thing but as mentioned above, aged cheese, like parm or a very sharp cheddar, would be low in lactose. I feel like i'm missing key nutrients by skipping dairy. (I know, I know.. it's in the packs)

When I did Medifast, I used veggie cheeses and found fat free Soya Kaas to work really well. The mozzaralla or cheddar come in a block and I could divide it into 1 oz cubes for part of my protein serving. It was great shredded on top of the soup or a roasted mushroom
Soya Kaas FF Mozzarella Flavor:
1 oz serving
36 cal
0g fat
0mg chol
240mg sodium
1carb
7 g protein

The white cheddar Soya Kaas flavor was decent too but it didn't come in FF or a block. Just slices.
Also liked Veggie shreds in something like a stuffed pepper.
I think i may need to talk to my coach about this...

i just finished reading dr.tran's book, he does say to stay away from all dairy, but my coach said 1oz of skim milk is ok.

My coach never suggested a journal either. But what you said makes sense so i think i will start one anyways...
