Question "Hershey squirts" HELP!

After about 4 weeks on IP during which I have felt absolutely super, I have developed a chronic diarrhea that is making me nuts. I have tried upping the amount of leafy greens I eat, taking Imodium, kaopectate, Pepto (not all at the same time!) -- NOTHING works. I drink lots of water (64 to 88 oz daily). I spoke to coach who said its related to the heavy protein load and that body builders talk about it all the time. This does not help me! The worst is that it leaks out at night. I am really discouraged about this. Any advice?

I thought leafy greens are supposed to help with constipation? I've had just opposite problem as you!

Do you eat any products that contain Xylitol or sorbitol or malitol ? Those ingredients do it to me .....to the point that I don't dare leave the house . I eliminated anything that contains those and no problem.

I have had that problem and have known people who have the same problem when eating leafy greens if they are not also eating high fiber carbs, that is one reason I keep a little high fiber bread in my daily diet.

Just a suggestion, but maybe too much potassium?

Magnesium will also do it to you if you are sensitive to it. That is in the cal-mag vitamins we take. Talk with your. Coach that may be the culprit as well.

Sounds like your situation is more acute than mine was, but I had success when I cut back on one of the cal-mags. Plus, I almost never ate salads.

I had chronic diarrhea my first week or so and I figured out it was from the sea salt given to me in my packet. I experimented and every time I used the sea salt, I had an upset stomach. I stopped using it and all is well. It may not be the same for you but something to think about.

I now supplement with different salts and my coach is just fine with that.

Most bars have sugar alcohols that can do this.
Too much cal mag can too...
Or a food allergy???

An example of sugar alcohols are in my post. Xylitol, Malitol, Sobitol are some of them, I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole.Do you chew gum ? Sorbitol is often in sugar free gum.

Could you try stopping the supplements and the bars for a few days and see if the problem stops? If it does stop you could add the things back one at a time and maybe figure out what causes it.

Thanks, all! I am clear of the sugar alcohols, actually -- but the magnesium looks like a promising lead given what I read about the metabolism of magnesium and it's n to diarrhea. I will try that first and then see where we are at. FYI, my "coach" was replaced yesterday by a 20-something who has herself been on IP since January; it was her considered opinion that it must be a reaction to the one EAS CarbAdvantEDGE shake I consumed last week. Please... I am not totally persuaded about the administration of this program. The results are indisputable, though.

I was told my issues with being a bit 'loose' were most likely from too much leafy stuff. Try switching for more solid veggies...

Update: I skipped my cal-mags this morning and so far so good! Relief!! I won't stay completely off them but I think I should definitely cut back. Thank you so much for the suggestions.

I'm glad this was posted, as I've been having the same problem for one week now. I did switch to CVS Cal-Mag's when the $32 bottle of IP vitamins ran out (last weekend, so the timing is right). I love the program, but am finding it difficult to keep with the the extreme expense of it.
Anyway... I will decrease my potassium also and see if that helps.
Thank you everyone for your help!
