Default goal weight?

How did everyone determine what their goal weight would be? Was there a chart you used or just the "perfect" number you always achieved to be? I am 5'0" and currently about 140 lbs. This is my heaviest I have ever weighed (except for pregnancy). I know I won't ever be stick skinny, it just isn't in my genes, but I just don't know what goal weight I should shoot for. Thoughts?

I just used the weight that would put me just inside a normal BMI range for this diet. Ideally, I'd like to lose an additional 10-15 pounds post-IP, since I will be doing a lot of bike touring and hiking this summer. But I figure I'll let my body determine if it's going to shed that last bit of weight.

In 2002 i got down to 159, just remember feeling good at that weight. Might reconsider going lower when the time comes.

The dietician at my initial weigh-in figured it out based on a healthy BMI (I thought). I'm also 5' tall, and she came up with 130. However, yesterday I used an online BMI calculator, and it said 127. I don't know if either of those weights are realistic for me. My initial personal goal is where you are now, but I'm going to strive for 135. If I make that, then I'll see about losing more.

My coach has a chart based on height and your frame. At 5'1 an "ideal" weight for me is supposedly 122 on their chart. But at my first weigh in I said I wanted it to be 115 because it seemed right. But now I've moved it to 120 that i'd like to maintain at.

At 5'2 my weight range is somewhere between 108 and 134. I picked 130 just really as a temporary goal number. I have since found a few sites that mention your "ideal" weight based on small, medium and large frame, and most seem to have me at about 121 pounds because I am small framed. I haven't been that weight since my early 20's and now I'm in my mid 50's. I do remember feeling thin when I was in my lower 120's. Basically I'm staying on phase 1 till I reach 130 and will then start to phase off. My ultimate goal will be to get under 130, but time will tell.

I chose a 'happy medium' in my BMI - but once I get closer I'll probably also combine a healthy body fat percentage into the equation since BMI can be a little misleading for some folks (my 6'4" fit, lean husband is considered Obese on the BMI scale - he has a 4-pack!).

Hmmm...I am 5'3," started IP in January at 278 lbs. and set 170 lbs. as my goal weight. Using the BMI calculator though, I would still be considered "obese" at 170, but "overweight" at 165.

All calculators aside...I think I want to see how I look/feel at 170 lbs before making any changes to my goal.

I just chose a weight that is suppose to be healthy for my height. Although, in my adult life, I've never been lower then 180 so as I get closer to my goal, I may re-evaluate my goal weight.

I am also 5 feet and my coach told me I should be 110. I know from being on IP for a while now that my body will never get down to that weight. I was at 124 which is the lowest I have been able to get on IP. After that my body just shuts down and scale refuses to move which frustrates me a lot and I tend to go off plan. So my goal is to get to 115 but If I can get to and stay at 120 id be super happy with that

I picked mine from an online BMI calculator that shows my weight range. I'm 5'7" , the one I used was http://www.halls.md/body-mass-index/bmi.htm ... and according to that, I'm obese. My doctor even used her chart, and I'm obese, but she looks at me and says "You are no way obese, overweight, yes, obese? no". BMI is 30.1 so barely obese. Ideal weight on this would be my lower end of bmi (for my preference) and that'd be 155 (highest normal) to 120 (lowest normal), i'm shooting for 130... had to use 3 websites to get the "normal BMI" levels, ugh!

Hi, IP will tell you it's all about a goal size and not a weight...Though I still "picked" a weight and size only to find out they don't go together like they did when I was younger...I chose 155 based on the charts for height/weight and build (i.e. small boned, medium boned, large boned). I also chose a size 10 to go with it... Well, when I got to 160 and was wearing a size 8 I decided that was enough!

Edit: And I choose 155 because that was smack dab in the middle of my weight range for my height and large bone structure...

This diet has us losing fat and retaining muscle so that's why I think I weigh more and wear a smaller size... You'll likely pick a number and it will probably change as you get closer to goal...

Good luck!

A size makes sense as body comp can affect weight. Of course, I want a healthy BMI most of all.

Just to get a number, I measured my elbow for frame size and then looked at a chart for my height and frame. I chose the heavier end of that range. The weight made sense to me, but getting closer to goal I think it will be easier to solidify a target.

there are many ways such as using your BMI as an outline like many ppl have done, but personally I like to be more realistic for results. I figure, if I wake up tomorrow and have a BMI of what ever #, will that make me feel better?

Instead I like to pick a size, the weight just goes with that size. Right now I'm at about 130 standing at 5'2. Last summer I was at 120 and felt amazing. Still 120 is hard for me to maintain seeing as I am curvy so to stay that small I have to eat 1200 calories a day and work out 5 times a week...so though that number is nice to have, I wanna fit comfortably back into a pair of shorts I bought last summer. That'd probably be more around 125ish...

I would just suggest to pick a number from whatever that, once you reach it, will make you feel good

When I started IP my body composition test showed my body weight minus fat at 93 lbs. So to reach the healthy 25-31% body fat range, my goal will be within 116 and 121 lbs. I will be striving for a size or look more than a weight, since I am finding that I am losing inches a lot more than pounds. At my 3 week weigh in I have lost 10 lbs, and 8.75 inches.
