Default Turkey Burger = gag

Ok trying to cut out some of the fat from using hamburger I bought a package of Costco Turkey Burger patties. Seriously I find these to be so pathetic and flavorless I can't see myself finishing the package. Tried some different spices, and even the WF BBQ sauce didn't improve the experience. I suppose with cheese & real BBQ sauce they might be tolerable... maybe.

Anyone have any suggestions for improving these things?

I buy ground turkey from costco all the time. I mix it with extra lean ground beef. The ground turkey takes on the taste of the ground beef. When I first did this I first put half of each equally but now I put more ground turkey than lean ground beef. Hubby has not even noticed a difference.
I had to smile at myself several times because some people had mentioned they needed to cut back on the red meat. I was agreeing in my mind because I make the "taco" salad and the "big mac in a bow"l fairly often, so I thought I really am getting too much red meat. Then I realized it is actually about 3/4 turkey. I had even fooled myself.
But that said, you have to be sure the ground turkey has the breast meat in it. The dark turkey meat has higher fat than lean ground meat.

I agree with you. After making some recipe's with ground turkey (meatballs) etc I was surprised that I wasn't liking any of the recipes I made. My sister suggested that it may be the turkey and not the recipes so I made all the recipes again but with ground chicken and they were amazing! I gave away all the ground turkey I had left and only buy ground chicken now.

Ground turkey is disgusting. How can anyone take a perfectly good turkey, grind it up, then have it taste so bad?

I buy either a real turkey leg, wing or breast, then bake in my little roasting pan...sometimes my slow cooker...just that with a lot of spices.
Now that is good eating....and lo-cal.

I'm lurking..but wanted to put my 2 cents in...I stopped eating beef and pork about 18-19 years ago. Ground turkey is my life I think Louis Rich ground turkey is the best. Great flavor. Seasoning salt and black pepper are crucial (try Lawry's). If it's in your plan, go to Hardees and try their turkey burger. Ruby Tuesday also makes a pretty good turkey burger, if you want to go fast food.

Just had to represent for the turkey lovers...

I don't like them either; they aren't a hamburger substitute...they are something different entirely. A friend of mine mixes in feta cheese, parsley and black olives. Says they're great; I haven't tried them. Good luck.

I might try the meat/turkey combo, or I might see if the dogs will eat the turkey patties, but I'm not sure they are pretty picky.

As for the Lawry's, no can do. Second ingredient is Sugar so that's off the menu on the IP diet. I've got some great BBQ seasonings but they all have sugar.

I love ground turkey, ground chicken, etc... I think the trick is to buy the ground turkey, season it as you like and then form them into your own patties. Whenever I buy pre-formed turkey burgers I think the texture and taste is weird.

I have to over cook my turkey burgers to enjoy them, I can't make them like a regular hamburger. I put lots of Tony's Chararee seasoning and it makes it all better.

I can't do ground turkey or chicken, so I use lean ground beef and if I have already had 2 servings of beef in a week, I have a veggie burger (which we love)
