This is second-hand information but I've been told that the official US IP manual says
total carbs. For an example of why this is important, hop over to the jicama thread. 2 cups = 22 carbs, as many carbs a some people eat per day when they are following IP strictly. If you subtract 11 grams of fiber the net is 11, and on the surface, looks good.
But, and this is a big but, if you eat 2 9-gram packets, 4 cups of Romaine, 170 grams, at 6.91 carbs, and another vegetable with 6-8 carbs, plus all the incidentals, like vinegar, milk, etc., you're well over 60 grams of carbohydrates per day. For me, at least, and no matter how much fiber I get, I'd be out of ketosis in the blink of an eye. In fact, some of us, self included, can't go above 30 grams per day and stay in ketosis. It's worth thinking about, and I hope this helps.
