Gained 5 pounds and still on plan

Hi. I'm stressed out! I've gained 5-6 pounds in the last 4 days and I'm not cheating. I work nights does that have anything to do with it? I lost 11.7 pounds my first week and now this. Please give me some suggestions. Everytime I try to diet this happens and I quit. I have 135 to loose. PleSe help!

Don't quit, that was a HUGE loss the 1st week, I am guessing you have weighted at home and not your WI w/your coach/dr.? I would definitly wait, there may be inch loss or a lb loss when you do your official weigh in.....also, is it TOM? (I am assuming you are a woman :)

Hang in there! I work nights also. I know the foods that are available at night. Keep drinking your water and staying on track. You can do it! Don't give up, weigh again in a week.

Don't give up. You probably have lost inches. But if not, you had a huge loss week one and your body is just catching up. It's pretty typical for the second week to be slower or not at all.

I agree with everyone else about not giving up. You know for sure it can't possibly be fat pounds, so your body must be adjusting itself. Continue to drink lots of water. Best wishes!!

Please don't give up, you're worth it!

I'm just starting today and may need you to give "me" a peptalk in a few days! :)

Yes, you lost in week 1, what it took me 3 weeks to lose. You "shocked" your body! You may be just retaining a little H2O, stay with it! Make sure to drink tons of H2O and use your salt ration. Good Luck :)

I work nights too. I have to adjust my meal times around to accomodate the late night and it seems to work for me. I discussed my nights with my coach in detail before starting and I have yet to run into a problem. I work 3 - 12 hours shifts in a row. So the first day I am on, I usually sleep until 1:30-2:00. When I get up, I shower then eat my breakfast (usually a shake of some sort) then around 5:00 I am eating my dinner with the family, so my protein, 2 cups veges + salad. Then its off to work at 7 pm. Around 10pm I have another shake. Then between 2-3 I eat my lunch, an IP packet, salad + 2 cups veges. I drink hot herbal tea at work and loads of water. When I get home from work, I use another IP packet and then its off to bed. I sleep until 4:00 and I start my routine all over. The first full day off of my 12s, I don't sleep as much during the day so I can adjust back to a regular sleep schedule, so I tend to be a bit more hungry, but I just eat a larger salad and if I really need it, an extra IP packet...

Don't give it up, IP and a night job can totally work... you just have to figure out what works for you....

I went up 2 pounds and was staying perfectly OP. However, I had lost 5 pounds the last week. I agree with the others. Your body adjusts to loss..then starts losing again. Stick with the plan it works!

When you eat (time of day) has no effect as long as you are consistant. I imagine it is more difficult for someone on a night shift because on your days off you goto a normal schedule which on the turnaround may put your body into starvation mode which even just eating protein is bad. Stay consistant and it will all be good. try using a Casein protein supplement when you go from your night shifts to your days off. It is a slow release protein that will help make the transition and keep you going. Plan your 'meals' around a typical 12-15 hour period of time you are awake not on the 00-24 clock

Okay first you have to relax, when I gained my 4.5 lbs that one week oneof the the more experienced Ipers (thanks Darbs) gave me good advise, if you follow the plan there is no way you can gain 5 lbs in a week, she further explained I would have had to eaten like 25000 calories to do that... and because you were OP not possible, next week you will lose. Your body is just adjusting.

Rollercoaster has it...I agree with her. If you've always had this happen and you always find you give up, do something different this time. Stay with it. Give it more time, allow your body to catch up to your head!

You guys rock. Thanks for the encouragement. I have gained 3 pounds in the last couple of days too. I am on week 4. I know that I should just "press on!"
