Scale Recommendation

  • So, although it's not advised I've been weighing myself every day since I started (Monday). I had an instance of getting on the scale (mid day I normally weigh in the morning) and literally within seconds of each weigh in(I did several back to back) there was a 4 lb difference. I need an accurate scale since I'm not going in to a clinic. Any recommendations?
  • I step on the scale very carefully, no leaping or jumping about. I also place the scale on a marked place on the floor and wait a few seconds to make sure the display is not going to change. I like the digital models best. No way to shift your head to get a different view. But when the batteries are about to go out, you can get wild numbers.

Hmmm...my battery light is flashing on my scale.

Well I had a nap today and trying not to stress about the lack of loss and the wee gain. (Control is an issue for me)

Just trying to have a chill kinda day.

Cie..who is off to hunt for batteries for her scale.
  • I've tried to find Novak's recommendation, but no luck. I believe it was the Omicron Body something. A multi-function scale.
  • In addition to the suggestions above, make sure the scale is on a non-flex (hard) surface.

I have 2 scales. My Tanita measures to 300 pounds in .5 pound increments with a body fat percentage available. It has been very accurate. I have a new Taylor scale that measures to 440 pounds in .2 pound increments with a BMI option. It has an oversized platform to stand on. It is also quite accurate so far.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. The range varies by weight above 300 pounds, if you can get bmi, body fat percent, or bio impedence analysis (BIA), if it allows tare (zero out) option. I found scales from 29.99 to 1600.00 usd.

I am not sure what is truly the most accurate but, I have read reports indicating detecto, seca, and health-o-meter are among the best of the medical scales. Tanita, Weight Watcher, Taylor, and Omron all have been well reviewed.

I found the article in the link below to be informative for me. Maybe you will enjoy it too. They used the reviews done by consumer reports and good housekeeping as a basis of the article and explain why the excludes other consumer reviews.

  • Well, after thinking about the discrepancies I realized that I had moved my scale from where I had previously been conducting my weigh ins. Once I moved it back it seemed to go back to weight consistent with my morning weigh ins. Weird. thanks all for the responses
  • You don't happen to have WII fit do you? That will weigh you in and track your weight as well...just a thought.

I found her scale option on Amazon. You might try there!

But spell it right: Omron. Not the way I suggested.
