Cool define "1 cup"

I just began my IP adventure yesterday...aside from being a little tired and needing to get used to the slight aftertaste it wasn't too bad.

Quick question though - when I was working my veggies...well I think I must be doing something wrong. I weighed out 8 oz of broccoli, and it was a LOT! So much, that I couldn't eat a second cup of veggies! Did I do something wrong? Is it a measurement of 8 oz., or is it what I can fit into a measuring cup to the one-cup line?

It is this.

You were mixing up fluid ounces (a measure of volume) with ounces (a measure of weight) I know they have similar names, but fluid ounces is different than weight ounces. (8 fluid ounces does equal 1 cup -- but that's for measuring liquids only)

What you want is 1 measuring cup of broccoli.

that's what I've been doing too. I take a 2 cup measuring cup (liquid measuring cup) and kind of push down the veggies so that air pockets are at a minimum. I try to make sure that it's at least 2 cups at lunch and dinner. I don't think it's a bad thing to go over, just not too much.

I use a measuring cup as well to measure out 2 cups. The rule of thumb is to measure veggies raw and meat cooked.

Are you sure that's right? I would think you would be eating more than 5 ounces, and in my paperwork it says measure foods prior to cooking... thanks for the info on the cup though - I figured I must be doing something wrong...

I was told all weights are prior to cooking. Meat cooks down a lot, and veggies pick up water.

I have been weighing my meat after I cook it. (using my Weight Watchers digital scale...hee hee). And I have had no problems losing weight. Total 0f 17 lbs in 3 weeks.
