SlimFast?

  • Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone has had success losing weight using SlimFast milkshakes. It seems relatively inexpensive and easy, so I am considering it. I would appreciate any comments, both negative and positive.
    Thank you!
  • I don't know if I could do those, for some reason I really need to chew in order to feel like I ate anything. I'm afraid that I would not be able to stick with a shake diet for more than a week before I would fail. Good luck.
  • There was another post on Slimfast a few weeks ago, I will bring it to the top for you.

  • I posted my thoughts on SlimFast on the earlier thread...just wanted to reiterate here...my experience only.

The high amount of sugar in SlimFast (where most of its calories come from) personally makes me MORE hungry, rather than making me feel filled up. And personally, to be filled up I have to have some complex carbs, fiber, and protein in my diet. You really have to wonder why SlimFast doesn't just use aspartame in their mix, rather than sugar -- wait a sec -- sugar is WAY less expensive than aspartame -- the cheapest calories there are...

Just a word of advice -- if you feel you need to use a shake as a meal supplement in order to lose weight, there are quite a few out there that are MUCH better nutritonally and taste-wise than SlimFast...try to find one with soy or whey protein and no sugar. SlimFast is just chocolate milk with a little fiber and vitamins thrown in. My schedule is very tight these days, so I did just start using a meal replacement shake called Lean Body for Her by Labrada a couple of days ago. You mix it with water, and can also add ice, fruit or coffee, whatever. It comes out very thick -- much thicker than Slimfast and ta-da! only 1 gram of sugar and 30 g of protein, and 200 calories. It's kind of pricey if you order it directly from the manufacturer, so check the Web for cheaper places -- I got it for $29 from Nutrition Express (retail on it is $50) for 20 packets. I just read on eopinions though, that you can just take a packet of the regular Lean Body, mix it with 36 ounces of water or milk and get three times as much at a cheaper price -- it's basically the same thing but with a few more calories. So I will probably try that when this box runs out. I don't usually advocate using meal replacements rather than real food (and I just use this a couple of times a day for snacks -- I still eat breakfast and dinner because I still need fiber and REAL food!) but if you want to use meal replacement shakes, it's a good idea to shop around and at least get something healthier than SlimFast. Again, JMHO.

  • Dear MrsJim and everyone else who replied:
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to my question. I think you all made some very important points. I see the SlimFast threads and I'm going over there to read them now.

    Thanks again!
