Need help!

  • Trying to figure out what "plan" I want to go on. I am trying to figure out what works best.
I have done WW and it has worked. I have done the calorie counting and it has worked in the past.
But I am just not sure what plan to do. With WW I thought it was simple but I didn't always see great results.
With calorie counting, I never knew exactly how many calories I should be eating. Every website told me something completely different!

So I am here asking what worked best for you and why?

SaraJ - I'm not currently dieting (I've stopped dieting forever, but that's another story) but when I did, I found using a simple calorie-counting app along with a very moderate amount of exercise was all I needed to do to lose the weight. Most of the apps available now will calculate for you the number of calories you need to lose weight as well as to maintain weight. They will also calculate how many calories you're burning through exercise and you can choose to eat those additional calories or not. Obviously the more of a calorie deficit you maintain, the more quickly you will lose weight.

Keep in mind that these are all estimates; you're not going to have a perfectly accurate reading at all times. But after doing it a few weeks you'll get the hang of it and you can tweak it if you're not losing weight.

All I did was walk. That's it. No weights, no running, nothing but walking. I was up to 5 miles a day, and I almost always ate all my exercise calories, but I still lost 25 lbs in about 6 months. Unfortunately I put it all back on because I stopped counting calories AND stopped exercising.

Now I'm doing intuitive eating and walking a very moderate amount - I'm doing 2 miles most days. (I'm recovering from a broken foot).

I see no reason to join WW or anything else for that matter. Just find a good app (I know lots of people here use MyFitnessPal or LoseIt!) and start calculating! And move your body, but don't overdo it. That's the quickest way to get burned out and frustrated.

    Take baby steps.
