Personally, I didn't have any specific diet plan restricting any particular food group. I started off calorie counting and allowing myself whatever I wanted within my calorie limit. As time passed, I began to realize what was and wasn't worth it to eat within my calorie limit and began to by myself make better food choices. This is what I've done through my entire journey.
You don't have to do a specific diet restricting types of food unless you really want to and feel that is key to your success. In that case, there are low carb sections (South Beach Diet, Atkins etc) here on 3FC where you can find out more and get support and recipes and ideas etc.
