What is your favorite low-carb diet!
After following a calorie counting diet for the last two weeks (1400 calories) and losing ZILCH, I've decided to go back to a low-carb diet. Over the years I've been on many and love how they take away my desire for sweets and seem to give me more energy. I'm older now (49), and can't lose as quickly on them as I did 10-20 years ago, but I find they still seem to work better than any other diet I follow.
For those of you who also love low-carb diets, which one is your all-time favorite and why? Any favorite low-carb recipes you'd like to share?
Thanks!

Sandcar there is no way you are 49!! You look great. Well I have tried almost every diet in existence and I always wind up going back to Atkins. It ist he only one that works and if done correctly is not as detrimental to your health as others would like us to believe. The Dukan diet is also very popular at the moment but I like Atkins better. I don't believe that low carb low fat diets work, atleast they don't for me.

I'm another Atkins fan, because it worked for me and it's easy. I'm going back on it this weekend, I just had a baby a month ago and I have a ton to lose!

Thank you both for your replies. Atkins sure does seem to be the most popular low-carb plan.
Stephanie, contratulations on your new baby and best of luck with getting to goal weight with Atkins.
Zumbachica, you are too kind. Actually, my profile picture was of me at 43 years old...the last time I weighed 140. I've recently changed my goal weight to 150, though. It's a little more manageable for me to maintain. But thank you for your sweet words.

I follow Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. It is very similar to Atkins, but stricter to maintain blood sugar control. I like the simplicity of his do and don't lists. I like Atkins, and would do it if I were not following this for blood sugar management. Another I have read up on and tried - and liked but had a hard time figuring it out as I need simplicity!- was Protein Power.

I am trying to lose (once again) and have been on a grain free diet for 3 weeks and down 8 lbs. Not really low carb - because I eat a lot of fruit. Grains make me hungry!!! Have not had those late night cravings past 3 weeks (that manage to undermine most of my diets). Eat lots of veggies (frozen in winter) - at room temp with olive oil and balsamic vinegar - with beans and sometimes with reduced fat feta cheese. I do have a protein shake for breakfast because I need something mess free for work. Dinner is eggs or tuna or sardines or chicken with red meat 1x per week. Have 70 lbs to go - but am I have hope.

I kinda follow my own low-carb diet....I eat mostly veggies and some fruit, supplemented by eggs, nuts, beans of all types, with a little cooked whole grains at dinner and some Fiber One for snacks.

I also developed my own plan. I've found that even on low-carb, I need a calorie-counting element, because I can stall or even gain due to calorie excess on most low-carb diets. I've even stalled on Atkins induction (and I don't consider it a stall until the six week mark without a loss).
So for portion control, I use a low-carb exchange plan. I based my own plan on the high-protein exchange plans I found online (such as on frugalabuncance.com).
My food selection, I base on what I learned from low-carb, "careful carb" and paleo plans like Atkins, South Beach, Neanderthin, Paleo Diet, Primal Blueprint, Volumetrics, The End of Overeating, Refuse to Regain...
Just about every month I check out from the library, at least one new (to me) low-carb or paleo diet or cookbook. Right now, I'm reading, Everyday Paleo by Sarah Fragoso.

There are lots of Korean foods that can work with low-carb.
Obviously most grilled meat places are good as long as the meat isn't marinated. Most jiggles are good if you stick to the soup and skip the rice.

Another Atkins fan here. I've been doing Atkins almost 8 years now and wouldn't think of eating any other way. That being said, whatever plan you choose must be a total lifestyle change to be successful...not just a "diet" you go on to lose the weight and then return to your old ways.
As for recipes, you will find some of the best on Linda's Low Carb site. Those marked with an * are Atkins Induction friendly.
http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html
Most importantly, if you are considering Atkins, I can not stress enough how important it is to read the book (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 or prior editions) BEFORE you attempt this way of eating so you fully understand how & why this plan works!
All the best to you!

The new book has a few good tips and ideas in it but I am not fond of it either.
I lose weight with Atkins doing the 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of other veggies. I got that from the 1997 book (yellow cover). It was the latest version of Atkins out at the time when I bought the book in 1998.
