Default The importance of giving 3 weeks

Hi all,

I posted a version of this over in the Men's corner which everyone is welcome to contribute to whatever your gender. In fact I would really like it if women with husbands, boyfriends, sons dealing with weight issues posted over there. Anyhow after I wrote the post below I just kept thinking how really important this is for weight loss. And 3 weeks is just a number it could be 8 days or 7 weeks. But the point is we are all creatures of habit to some degree so when starting to make changes you have to be more aware of what you are doing and use more will power but over time changes become your new habits! Take drinking water. At first you will probably just go to grab whatever you are use to drinking. So you have to think no I should be drinking water. And gads man I am going to the bathroom, and man I really want a coke or whatever. But give IT TIME and you will be saying where is my water bottle. So use some will power to get started, be strong, and that can be the start of something big (which will lead to something small :-))

I have gained some weight recently which was disappointing but I know why. I got out of my good habits. Now I always allow myself a little slack but when I started to lose weight consistently, I had overall good habits. But I went home for winter break and was going out almost every night. My semester last year got busy and I stopped working out. I also stopped drinking a good amount of water.

For about the last week so far I have gotten back to my good habits and I feel wonderful. Much more energy and I am already seeing a difference in my appearence. I think the hard thing when you are changing habits is to get over the first few weeks. When you can do that.....your new ways become your habits. So my suggestions are two fold. Don't make every change at once. Perhaps better food choices the first few days. Then eating slower with better food choices. Then add in eating less, drinking more water, doing more exercise. Second the first few weeks are where willpower comes into play a lot. Your body and your mind remember what you are use to doing and it can be hard to change. But stick with it, it isn't going to be that hard for long, and the benefits are amazing.
