Question Protein Question

2 Protein questions, actually.

~How do you know how much to eat when dieting and exercising?

~If trying to lose weight (fat) can a lot of protein (or too much protein?) be detrimental?

I'm 32 yrs old, f, 5'2", 127 lbs, exercise at least 6 days/week and want to lose at least 10 - 20 lbs. I've been eating about 55g of protein/day (by way of soy, whey, milk products... but I don't eat meat or fish). Any advice for me on protein?

Too much protein is not nearly as bad for you as too many carbs. 55g is not much protein. I am 69, 149 pounds, exercise 10 hours a week and I eat 90-100 grams of protein a day. I do lift weights as part of my exercise.

a good rule of thumb is to eat 1 gram protein per 1 lb lean body mass...... if i were you id shoot for 90-110 grams protein per day

This is ESPECIALLY important when you are restricting calories, or dieting down, as it helps to prevent the loss of muscle mass, as does adding a regular strength training program to your exercise (if you dont already)
