How do you know it's water weight?

Drink MORE water. If you are dehydrated, your body will hold on to fluids. Also, watch your salt intake. Some foods and herbs are touted as natural diuretics. You might do a Google search for that and see what you can find. I find if I am exercising regularly, drink plenty of water, and watch my salt, I don't have too much water weight problems.

Perfect timing for this thread for me. I gain 8 to 10 lbs every month with TOM. I know it's water retention, because it appears and reappears right on schedule, no matter how close I'm following my food plan. I also do the thumbprint test (you press into your skin with your thumb for several seconds, release and if the impression doesn't spring quickly back, it's supposedly a sign of water retention).

Normally, I just let it run it's course, but tomorrow evening is my TOPS weigh-in, and I really hate going in with a gain, even when I know it's a normal fluctuation I can't do much if anything about.

The good news is that the scale is only up 3 to 4 lbs instead of the normal 8 - 10, so my gut reaction is that the water gain might actually be masking a significant loss.

Still, I'd like to get rid of as much as I can by tomorrow evening.

My normal remedy is lemon or lime juice in water - and lots of it.

Bananas (because of the potassium "counteracting" the sodium), and cranberry juice are also supposed to be good.
