Default Keeping the weight off once you've lost it

I'm meeting a local coach tonight to decide whether to try the Ideal Protein diet. I'm 58, and losing weight has become just about impossible for me. However, I'm even more concerned about keeping the weight off once I do lose it (I'm pretty sure I will on the IP diet). I know that the recidivism rate for diets is really high in general, and that yo-yoing is really bad for your health. Have those of you who've completed the program put weight back on? My problem with diets in general over the years has been that they create at kind of "starvation mentality" and make you obsessed about food, so that it's very difficult not to go overboard when the restrictions are finally lifted. In light of this, I've been working with the Normal Eating program for a while, but I've only ended up either maintaining or gaining (not a lot), so I'm discouraged about that approach too, though it did help me stop obsessing constantly about food. Any comments or advice are welcome
