I always wondered what the differences were between: The 4 Day Diet, FS, and EFS. Now I know

As of today I'm back to the weight I was last Friday, which is good. Now I can continue to lose for the rest of the month and then I'm off again. Ah, how I miss warm weather!

Default i'm back!!

hi ladies!

i got back from France last night after 12 days away. and, yes, i got on the scale this morning, first day back, and, the only change was up in fat from 40.1 to 40.5. the pounds are the same! blow me away... i fully expect it to hit me later this week and next, but i'm back to the exercise and 4 day (i'm NOT doing detox again!), second module.

i really tried to limit the evil foods: breads, omelettes, fries, crepes w/cheese, chocolate, wine, beer.... i ate a lot of salads and pushed the plate away either when the food wasn't good or when i was full!

so, if i can get back to the 'rules', then i shouldn't see a huge hurt from my time away. but it was so good to be there and get my head back into French, and see my friends.

so, i read through this week's posts, welcome to all the newbies! nice to see so many people trying to do the FS/EFS/4 day. i didn't see any posts from sherry though, any news from her?

read you soon!

Welcome back Misskitty. It appears you mastered your vacation with no weight gain. That is great. I'm sure you will be back on tract in no time shedding the pounds.

Welcome back MissKitty! I'm really impressed with you not gaining a pound while being France for 12 days. I hope I'm able to control myself as you did when I go on holiday.

I ended up repeating Detox after the weekend in Amsterdam, I just finished day one of Transition... then I plan on doing Vigorous afterwards.

thanks, ladies.

i did walk a lot, but i'm surprised, as surprised as you! that i didn't gain any weight. i drank a lot of water too, which may have helped. but the fat did change, so i was 'caught' in one way.

but the treadmill was a bit of a challenge this morning! being away from cardio for that long was not a good thing.

but like i said, i actually got over the 'you paid for this meal, so you should eat it all' syndrome (and France doesn't do doggy bags ) and stopped eating when i was full.

but man, the house is EMPTY of fruits and veggies! i must go shopping!

misskitty, awesome job maintaining while on vacation! you rock!

I am liking EFS so far. On day 6 of cycle 1. Down 2.5 lbs. Getting in lots more exercise - walking every day at lunch and going to the gym at night.

I'm looking for suggestions on getting more fruit and veggies in. My issue is that I don't like to eat them alone. I have a salad every day with dressing, and I'll have fruit with yogurt or oatmeal, and veggies with my egg whites. But if I try to eat plain veggies or fruit my stomach feels weird - like hunger pangs. Normally I'd add peanut butter or hummus and get more in that way, but I'm watching my calories more. Any suggestions?

MissKitty, I applaud you.. that's awesome to go away for that long and come back to see the scale has essentially not changed.. I'm going on a cruise in May and am hoping for the same thing. I went on a cruise in January of this year and actually LOST 2 pounds (guess I did not really like the food).

Taurie, what is the difference between all of the fat smash books. I'm currently doing the one in the blue/white book and I really like it but I was thinking of buying the 4 day plan. what do you think???

Welcome to all the newbies and I'm so glad that everyone else decided to keep this site rolling. I love it!

Natamars - Do you get the same hunger pang feeling if you eat them just before you get hungry? I use to feel hunger pangs if I only ate salad for a meal, I don't any more. Maybe it's just baring it a few times until it's a habit. Wish I could be more help. Have you tried roasting or grilling veggies? Here are a couple links for recipes without oil: http://www.staceysnacksonline.com/20...t-peppers.html
You can substitute the sugar in this one with Splenda (I think)
http://thaifood.about.com/od/vegetar...edvegetabl.htm

PrettyPearls - EFS is more regimented and stricter, for those wishing to break through a plateau or lose the last few pounds. I believe there are only three phases. FS allows more flexibility and has four phases. As for the 4 Day, it has seven phases. You change phase every four days. All these plans have the same basic principle of making sure the majority volume of food you consume is from fruits and veg with limited whole grains, dairy, caffeine, and meats.

I'm very happy with the 4 day; I broke through a plateau as soon as I started and even though I've cheated a few times on weekends overall the scale keeps going down. However, everyone here seems to be on EFS or FS, so I think for support go with one of those. Plus you'll find more info online in regards to recipes for EFS and FS meals. Hope that helps.

Anyone else want to add differences between EFS, FS and 4 day?

i think taurie said it all for the 4 day. i was on FS a few years ago and did very well, but when i started it this time around in january, i got bored. so i tried the 4 day which i like b/c it's like starting a new diet every 4 days. he also says what type of exercise one needs to do each of the four days, although i don't rest when he says it's a rest day.

you know, even if we do gain weight on vacation, i think that the habits we learn on any of these three 'diets' will allow us to get back on track really easily when we return, or even if we do slip a little, it's not the end of the world!

happy day!

Haven't done the 4-day, so I can't comment on that.

EFS has three phases. Each is 7 days. I'm on day 7 of the first. I think it's the strictest - no bread, pasta, white potatoes, cereal(except oatmeal). But it has some of my favorite foods - brown rice, beans, oatmeal, salads. You eat 4 small meals a day and you can eat 2 100-calorie snacks(he provides a list). I don't think the 3 phases are all that different - you can have some bread later on I think, and some fruits that weren't allowed in the first phase(banana, pineapple, and watermelon). He also lists specific minutes of cardio to do each day, and on some days it's twice a day.

FS has a 9-day detox and then you add some stuff back in. He doesn't list specific quantities on most things, just tells you what foods to avoid. It is much more flexible. I lost 6 lbs. on the 9-day detox.

I think both plans are good and have their pros and cons. I think the majority of the food is very healthy. What has been key for me on EFS is eating 6 times a day and keeping all the meals small(generally under 300 calories, never more than 400). He says you don't have to count calories, but I like to track.
