Hi Everyone,

Just a quick flyby to say hello. I've not been around much staying busy doing other things. I did end up doing the Metabolism Miracle plan with IE. It really isn't a diet. It is a way of training my body to handle carbs. Step 1 is an 8 week plan that is mostly low carb, but it is done in a way that gives the pancreas and liver a rest before adding more carbs back into the woe. I can eat only when I'm hungry and only as much as I need and like IE it is recommended not to go more than 5 hours between meals or snacks. Today is day 7 of Step 1 and I am beginning to feel so much better and not hungry all the time like I was before. Not supposed to weigh for 8 weeks, but not able to do that so I am charting my daily weight on a graph just to see how I do. I am definitely a Metabolism B person because the scale is all over the place just as she said it would be. First week was difficult while my body made the adjustment, so I'm right on schedule with everything. So I feel I am making progress and feel good about the fact that I am doing good things for my body as well since there are great benefits from this new woe lifestyle.

Optical Goddess - Welcome. This is a great group.

Blue, Carolr, Becky, Julie, Shay and All others I missed -

Have a great Sunday. I'll check back in when I can.

5 carrots, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces

8 to 10 cups water or vegetable stock

stirring occasionally, for 1 hour.
I cut out a lot of seasonings just bc I'm plain I don't need that much but whew 2 cups of lentils is a lot. I put some up in the freezer which is perfect.

That sounds good Shay and I love lentils. I also love good homemade soups as well as I do salads. I am copying it as well. I look forward to using it when I get to second step of my WOE.

Thanks

We're on Mt. Rainier right now and the family is skiing while I have the flu. Oh well, probably better here than at home. Not much appetite so I'm sticking mostly to chicken soup and I hope I can shake this quick. My 2 grandsons are coughing a lot so they must not feel too well either. Doesn't seem to slow them down. All total there are 4 grandsons here ages 7, 4, 3 and 10 months plus the parents and my Dh and I.

Hello everyone!

Wishing you a speedy recovery Carol! Enjoy the grandkids!

Not much going on with me. I find myself struggling with diet mentality again. Why is this so hard to shake? I do "good" for a few days and then I go and sabotage myself by eating everything in sight. No excuses. I guess it's that good vs. bad thinking. I need to adopt an old cliche: "It's all good!"

Hey Trish, that WOE sounds interesting. I've been bombarding the system with too many carbs lately and boy oh boy does it show! I don't know what I'm gonna do with myself! I cannot and will not go on another diet. But I know that I, too, feel so much better without all those carbs in my body.

On a side note: I think somehow I got it in my head that snacks = snack foods. I know I would feel so much better if I ate something "real" for a snack when I get the munchies. Something like a bowl of rice or leftover meat from dinner or a plate of cooked veggies. I know I enjoy those types of foods better than the dry "snack" stuff but for some reason I find myself reaching for the chips or crackers. Strange. My WOE needs a major overhaul!

Well, that's it for me for now. I'm hanging in there hoping someday it will all click!

Have a good one!

This is how I get back into the diet mentality, Blue. I see my Dh for the first time in 9 mo. and she has lost 20lb with this cleanse and looks great. I'm happy for her but I know I can't do it so I listen more closely for hunger which is hard on vacation. It seems you are never hungry then. Thanks for the recipe, Shay. Feeling a little better but looking forward to my own bed.

I guess I forgot to report that I lost 9.4 lbs during the cleanse. I'm still eating a lot of fruits and veggies and throwing in something different here and there. I've now put the scale away.

Great job, Shay. I had the weirdest thing happen today. I bought some Zicam lozenges for my cold and after sucking on one I couldn't taste. I really want to take them back to Costco. That is a really funny feeling. I think it is coming back now but I don't want to take another chance. I used the Zicam nasal gel for years with no problem but I read negative things on the net about it.

Carol, yes, that is a known effect, and has rarely been permanent. I wouldn't risk it either.

Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't been posting lately. I'm fighting the diet mentality too and trying to really do IE, instead of just eating whatever I want WHENEVER I want. I realized it's really hard for me to wait until I'm hungry.

Lunch time means a break at work, so sometimes I go to lunch even if I'm not hungry. And dinner means the end of the day, relaxing before bed, so I have dinner even when I'm not hungry....

For some idiotic reason I weighed myself the other day and I was up 5 lbs. It freaked me out because a few more lbs and I'll go up again to the highest I've ever been. But, the difference now is that I've been going to the gym since november, several times a week, I can feel my legs really getting strong. My calves are completely hard... but my mind completely refuses to believe that some of those 5 lbs may be muscle. completely refuses to....

So, instead of gong into last supper syndrome I'll just stick to IE. And start waiting to be hungry =)

Hi Everybody,

Hope everybody is having a good Valentine's weekend. I am amazed that I didn't buy any Valentine's candy. Quite an accomplishment.

Blue I'm learning the same thing about carbs. I try doing the MM thing but I just can't eat on a schedule of every 5 hours etc. I'm still doing IE using a lot of the low carb things I've learned along with IE. I also remember that the girl on the IE site told me not to go more than 5 hours without eating. I no longer crave sweets. I too have learned that snacks can even be leftover food from a meal. I only buy foods that I like and I eat what I want when I'm hungry and I don't eat if I'm not. I really believe things are starting to come together.

ALO22 Great doing the gym. I'm sure the 5 lbs is just from he exercise.

Carolr, Julie, Shay and everyone esle

Have a great Valentine's weekend.

Well this is a first for me. We just got back from Seattle and we didn't go to Baskin Robbins once. We don't have them near us but somehow I just wasn't hungry for it.

Carolr I was just wondering how you are feeling. Forgot to ask you earlier. Great accomplishment, huh. I know the last trip Tony and I took that we didn't stop at a DQ for a Blizzard. We both love them, but just didn't have the desire. It is so much fun when we have an accomplishments like that... great or small. I used to love certain Valentine's candy, but didn't feel the desire for it this year. I guess that is what it's all about one victory at a time. The nice thing about IE is we are free to have it if we really want it. I think that is what takes away the desire.

I actually believe that IE is taking hold of me now. This last round of trying to diet again, had a whole new effect on me. I suddenly realized that all diets are basically the same when you get right down to it. And everyone seems to argue that their's is the only way that will work or this won't work or that one won't. So I've been looking at what different ones do and how they eat especially those who seem to lose. They seem to only buy foods they really like. Some will eat the same thing everyday which some diets say DO NOT DO. Others like variety. Some keep it simple and some don't. I like to keep things simple and healthy. So I've just started buying only the foods that I really like and don't bother with anything that I don't. While I do know there are certain foods or types I cannot eat or have to find an alternative when possible. I'm just taking it one day at a time and one step at a time. I certainly hope I am finally getting it together with IE and making it work for me.

Glad you made it home safe.

Hi its been awhile since I've posted. I haven't been doing so well actually I'm prob the heaviest I've been in a long time! I'm just having a really hard time getting back into IE every day I tell myself I'm going to listen to my body and what it wants and than I don't! I'm just really depressed by my weight gain and I can't seem to get out of this slump! I'm going to try a fresh start tomm..(Going out with the hubby for Valentines dinner tonite!) I guess I'm just looking for some advice on how to get back on track..weekends are the hardest for me..going out with friends etc..almost always revolves around eating or drinking..I guess I'm just influenced by what everyone else around me is doing that I forget to listen to those signals that I'm satisfied etc..any ideas?? Thanks!! And sorry for the super long post.

Hi lharvey. I can only say we all get off track at times if that is any help. It might help you to reread Intuitive Eating by Resch and Tribole. They have an audio CD that is interesting, too. When you have spent years ignoring the signals of hunger and fullness, it might take time to get back to those signals.
