Hey ladies,
I just got an email from Mush. Mush is the administrator of the fat smash forum. It had been taken off the internet due to legal issues surrounding Dr. Ian and the Fat Smash diet. But, it is back!
www.fatsmashforum.com
It has lots of info.

Hey, guys!
I am starting fat smash tomorrow. I hit a plateau counting calories, and just hit another one doing low-carb, plus I'm having some bathroom issues with it(sorry, TMI). So I figure all the fruits and veggies will be good, plus I need something strict.
I got the book from the library and will shop tomorrow. I'm not too concerned except for the sugar, which I'd been limiting but which has been creeping up lately, and the wine - I have a glass or two a day on the weekends and will miss it. I've already been eating lots of veggies and egg whites, and I love oatmeal and brown rice.
A few questions:
1) He doesn't specify anything on the yogurt, but I'm going to do plain mixed with fresh fruit since I think there's not supposed to be sugar? I don't do artificial sweeteners.
2) Why is herbal tea limited? In the winter I drink it all day and count it as my water.
3) He doesn't address fats too much for phase 1 - he talks about limiting to 1-2 t when cooking. Do you use any on your salads? I don't want to use store-bought dressing since they tend to have things like sugar and corn syrup, so I figured I'd use balsamic and lemon juice, but I need at least a little oil.
4) Did everyone really avoid the scale for 9 days, and what kind of results did you get? I'm going to have DH hide it and not tell me where it is.
Thanks, guys!

Hi natamars, let's see if i can help.
1. for the yogurt, i'd have to agree w/no sugar.
2. he wants us to get used to drinking water and really, unfortunately, tea doesn't count as water....i know, i don't like that either.
3. for the salads, good idea on the 'do it yourself', but he does say 3tbsp per salad, non fat of course.
4. i did weigh myself b/c i'm into immediate satisfaction. it's probably a good idea not to, b/c as long as you follow the rules, there shouldn't be any surprises at the end of 9 days. i only got 5 pounds off at the end of detox though, so don't hope too high!

Shae8230, this is like the best news about the forum back up and running. As geeky as this sounds this is karma that I need to get back on the fatsmash wagon. Mush is such an awesome moderator and chalk full of info. Too exciting!

Good Morning Ladies,
Going shopping in a few mins. Just wanted to say "hey" before I go. It is unseasonably warm here in Maine. Everyone has been getting blizzards and such and we have been having above normal temps and no snow. So strange. We are usually buried in snow by now. I have to say I don't miss it! lol. It's nice to be able to walk outside and not have to put on the full winter gear just to check the mail. lol.
misskitty~ I SEE YOUR TICKER! lol.
sluggo44~ I KNOW! I love that site. I am so glad it's back.
natamars & mleajanko ~ Looks like misskitty answered all of your questions. The website I mentioned ( www.fatsmashforum.com) has lots of info if you want to check it out.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!
I will be back later to post my menu for tomorrow.
Sherry

Shae8230 and misskitty, could you answer a few questions for me please? What is the total amount of popcorn we can have? I know it has to be airpopped but can't remember if its 1 cup or 4 cups, just don't want to go over my limit. How many many veggie burgers are we allowed a day? I like boca and morningstar garden burgers, spicy black bean but can't remember the limit per day. I really tried to start yesterday but no such luck. We got 12 inches of snow here in Texas (weird huh?) so I couldn't get to the grocery store and I need to stock up and get everything ready for this journey. I already made so many oatmeal cookies, they are the easiest for me to eat for breakfast. I have a feeling I will stay in phase I for more then 9 days due to it takes awhile for me to get rid of the sugarmonster cravings. Actually I could stay in phase I for a long time but I know it's important to move on to the next phase. I had been well lets say trying to do southbeach for the last couple of years so I'm use to eating alot of chicken and meat so it will be an ajustment. My biggest fear is not losing weight due to my menopause and how my body reacts to carbs even when they are good carbs. My meopause was surgically induced about 11 years ago and I'm still in menopause. I had one ovary left and in about a year it tried up and whoa here came the menopause, gained 20 pounds in one year and hadn't changed anything with my diet or exercise regimen. I have spent way too much money on different diet plans and lord knows I have every diet book out there. I just want this weight off and not let it control my life anymore. Good luck to ya'll. Sorry to ramble so much.

Hi sluggo~ I was born and raised in southeast Texas. What part of the state are you from? We never got snow. lol.
I found this website helpful to refresh my memory since it has been 4 years since I did FS.
http://www.diet.com/g/fat-smash-diet
I don't know about the veggie burgers. I will have to see what I can find out. I stayed on phase 1 for 3 weeks last time. Dr. Ian has said the it is okay to stay on FS a couple of weeks longer. But, don't be afraid to move on to phase 2. I am insulin resistant and have PCOS. I lose weight S-L-O-W,
so I understand what you said about being scared that you won't lose weight. Just remember that we are not in a contest to see who can lose the most the fastest. ( I have to remind myself....dh loses super fast compared to me! UGH) And also know that you won't lose as fast after phase 1. I was so surprised when I hit phase 2 last time. I wanted to lose as much as I did in phase 1 and as fast. But, it isn't realistic.
Good luck to you!
I hope this is the plan for you. And don't worry about rambling. lol.
I love to read long posts.

sluggo~
This is what I found about veggie burgers and popcorn from a Q&A with Dr. Ian:
Quote:
Can I have popcorn?
3 cups of air popped popcorn is ok. No butter of course
|
Quote:
Are veggie burgers allowed in Phase I?
Veggie burger which are made of 100% veggie or tofu are allowed. Some veggie burgers have bread and/or cheese contents. You can't have those.
|
It seems like he is saying if it is just veggies or tofu that you can have unlimited amounts. I would say that since we can have unlimited beans that the black beans would be okay.... as long as there aren't any added ingredients that are not allowed on phase 1.
HTH!
Sherry
P.S. Here is a link to the Q&A with Dr. Ian:

Hi mleajanko~
Hopefully one of the other ladies can help you.... I don't know diddly about EFS. lol. And as far as I can tell.. there isn't a lot posted about the menu's online. I have searched and searched. Guess they wantcha to buy the book . When FS first came out... the info was easy to find online. I found more info online than I did in the book. The FS book was sorta lacking.

shae8230, thanks for the info. I posted on Mush's site but still haven't gotten a reply for an updated food list for phase I. I'm pretty sure I know what to do. Are you already on fs or starting at another date? Tomorrow after taking my dad to get stitches out I will be going shopping so I can start monday.

sluggo44~ I am waiting to start on Monday. We went shopping today and stocked up on veggies and fruit. But, we still have some food that we need to eat before it ruins. In this economy... we can't waste. Dh is starting the diet with me... so, it should be fun.
You may also try joining the fat smash yahoo group. I tried to post the link... but, it won't work here. You can just do a search for fat smash yahoo group and you will find it.
I just rejoined and am waiting for approval. But, if I remember correctly... they had lots of info in their database.

I finally got approved today, it took almost 1 1/2 days. It does have info but I have a feeling its not as active as 3fat chicks. Having 3 sites (3fat chicks, yahoo and Mush's) I believe we can do this. Even thou I'm not officially starting till monday I started yesterday trying to eat the fs way. Tonight I had 1 1/2 cups of brown rice and mixed veggies Yum! It's so weird I feel so good right now, I'm starting to think meat is not the best thing for me but I will be incorprating it on phase II. Oh I forgot to tell you, I live in Weatherford Texas pretty much 10 miles west of fort worth.

Happy Valentine's everyone! Started today. Weighed in at 145, up a few lbs. , probably mostly extra salt the last few. Having oatmeal, soy milk, and blueberries for b'fast. Looking forward to brown rice, lentils, and chick peas - love those foods, and haven't had them since low-carbing. Just have to be careful not to overdo.
Planning on ice skating(haven't done it in years) and the gym today. Also need to shop for lots more fruit and veggies.
Hope everyone has a great day.
