I am a newbie Nascar fan, I went to my first race over Memorial Day (Coca-Cola 600) and i think its a fun sport to watch. As i am learning about everything i learned that CINTAS is fighting NASCAR right now. They want their race track included in the circuit, but NASCAR passed them over. So now Cintas is trying to get the courts to change the way tracks are selected. This could mean people's favorite tracks (Poconos, Talladega, Richmond, etc) left off in favor of shiny new tracks. Now being a new fan and all that just doenst seem right. Seems like NASCAR needs to stand up to this and fight. Any avid NASCAR fans have any sort of opinion on this? Has anyone seen petitions at the races?
Well, I am a Nascar fan and I haven't really heard anything about those petitions. I do know that they are adding new tracks, and revamping alot of them.
Long and short of this suit is that, the Kentucky Speedway and Richard Farmer a big owner of Cintas are suing NASCAR. Cintas has a big uniform contract with NASCAR and the owner of it invested in this track in the middle of nowhere. Now they want to sue NASCAR so that they can force a Nextel Cup race there. That isn’t fair. Richard Farmer doesn’t need to start deciding where NASCAR should be racing. Its up to the association themselves to decide where and when the races should be, not big corporations. Yes, NASCAR is private however if CINTAS tries to say they are creating a monopoly of tracks, they may have a case. Personally as i said in my first post, i dont want the little guys like the race in Bristol to disappear to the bigger tracks with more money, period. Bristol is a classic, you cannot leave tradition behind. Sorry, I am a southern girl, i like tradition, is that so bad?
Hey Velveeta, I'm a NASCAR fan too. Do you live near Charlotte? (Since you went to the 600) I haven't heard about the petitions either, but there's a lot changing in NASCAR, so who knows.
Nascar fan here too. I started as a fan 4 years ago while keeping up with the races for my husband and NOW OMG i watch more than he does! I have TrackPass with Nascar.com and everything! LOL I am HOOKED.
Haven't been to a race yet but want to either do Charlotte, Bristol, Daytona, or Talladega. Those are my 4 favorite tracks.
I have heard of that suit and agree with nascar that they don't need a race there. That track only has about 3/4 of the seating that nascar would need for even the least popular races on the circuit. If they take the Mothers day race away (which is the one that track wants to replace I think) lots of people will be mad. That race on Mothers day at the track dubbed "the lady in black" is nascar tradition from way back.
Anyway thats my 2 cents...Thanks Harpo for showing me this thread! you are right This thread is for me
GO DEI!!!!! Love my Jrs Although my missouri boys Edwards and Wallace get my cheers too
I am a NASCAR fan myself, it has gotten to be about money. I love my Dega, that's my track and Bristol. WooHoo. Jr is my boy. Got to love my Sterling since he lives about 30 mins away and I know the family (gloat)hehe

Go Jeff Gordon and the #24!!
No, my brother lives in Charlotte and i was down there for Memorial Day so him and his wife took me to my first race. I was dating this guy who was from Bristol and wanted to take me to that race 2 years ago but we broke up before i could go. I am now upset since it seems like one of the best races. Thanks for everyone's input.
EZmoney and Lil Vampire, i guess everything these days is about the money, i would just hope that with NASCAR maybe tradition would take precedence for once.
LeaLee thanks for your input. And I definitely agree, there doesnt need to be another track and another race. Isnt the schedule already full enough and i dont think any more races need to be added.
Nascar fan by force- living in a house full of guys does that to ya .. (2 teenage redneck sons and a redneck husband) but on this topic from what i remember from a conversation a while back is the track you are discussing was built with an ok by Nascar to *most likely* add it to the track schedule along with the one in Dallas which was added a while back. Altho right now Dallas somehow ended up with 2 races a year .. one in early april and one in november. I thought the november race was suppose to be a *floating* race meaning it will change tracks venues to new tracks every year but this year will be the 2nd year that dallas has had it. I guess after Cintas built the track with below par seating and access Nascar decided not to use it for Nextel cup at all but i think that it is still used quite a bit for Craftsman truck series and other races that are not exactly the crowd draw that Nextel is. Cintas thinks they have a case cause Nascar had implied or givin them reason to believe that Nextel cup would be there as well. I think they are wrong in the fact that they built something that will not hold the people yet want Nextel there anyways. It would be bad for Nascar to hold that race there because they wouldn't make near the money they could get at other tracks. But above all the tracks i want to see is Bristol ... omg .. the wrecks!! i love that track and i never miss watchin it on t.v. also sometimes the speed channel will show replays of old races laffs..
I can't get enough of Tony Stewart ... cocky lil bugger with that just right redneck attitude that doesn't seem to play up to anyone other than the fans. He makes me laugh ...
Gotta say I love Kasey Kahne, what a hottie!!! My husband's favorite driver is Matt Kenseth. My almost 4 year old runs around saying "Go Kasey Kahne!!" it is quite cute.

HAHa, i guess a house of 3 guys would certainly turn you into a fan whether you like it or not. The Kentucky Speedway was just built with an "assumption" that they would get a race. NEVER ASSUME, hasnt everyone been taught that? As for floating races, i havent been a fan long enough to know which races are floating or not but it seems the season is already long enough, so races surely dont need to be added (dont these guys ever get a vacation?) NASCAR just needs to keep the classic races and and not let the big $$$ dominate which tracks will be included and not.
I used to live in Dallas but never made it to that track. What is it like? Is it nice? How big compared to Charlotte?
Vel- the track is great .. i really wasn't that into going but once i got to the track with all the outside stuff and the race itself with the pre-show and such .. it was definitely an event. we walked for hours just pokin our noses around in stuff and playing in the simulators racing each other .. other than the guys waking me up at 5 a.m to get *good parking* it was fun.. i think the track is like 1.5 miles so they can really stretch it out ..and the noise oy .. of course the guys are under the philosophy the closer the better so we were on the 2nd row and basicly deaf by the time we left... i must say that was the quietest ride i have had in the car in ages!! ~laughs~
The drivers don't seem to get much of a vacation .. i think they have like 12 weeks down time but i imagine most of that time is spent woo'ing sponsors and revamping the car and team for the upcoming season .. 12 weeks isn't very long to me .. they have just packed the schedule keeping the northern races in the summer and the southern in the winter so weather doesn't kick em in the pants or should i say into the wall? i think kentucky is jus fallin into no man's land .. laughs .. nothin against kentucky .. i have ALOT of family there .. i jus don't see em often ... the chase for the cup is primary now .. altho i have to say since they started that i don't much care to keep up with that part of it .. seems unfair to me to have a cut off and only allow the top 10 to race for the big money .. how many times have ya seen someone start out a year crappy and end it up fantastic? not jus in nascar .. any sport .. i just don't like how nascar did that ..and all the rules they keep adding on .. pretty soon they are gonna make it like those lil cars ya can drive at amusement parks with the bar between ya tires and everyone gets their own lane .. oy! what a thought!!
