Just kind of skimmed through the thread: Great getting to terms with the issue Jen!
I just wanted to emphasize that it is true: if a customer is harrassing an employee, that employee informs their boss about the harrassment, and the boss does nothing to prevent the harrassment from continuing, this is "contributing to or condoning the atmosphere of harrassment", and is just as bad as if the harrassment is comming from a fellow employee (or the boss).
Harrassment does not have to "cross a line" and be
this bad or
that bad to count. If the employee feels uncomfortable, and it does not stop when that is communicated, there is a problem- and it's not always possible to know just how big a problem it might be until it's too late. Too often, it seems that the easy thing to do is just let it go... but if we all did that how nice would our workplaces be?
So, Jen, I applaud you again for making it a little better for everyone.
I bet that guy is like that with all of his female venders... you might have made the days of several people better by your actions.
