Well, call me crazy but I name my dogs after Mexican foods. I have Taco and my Chinese Crested dog is officially named Frito's Burrito Bandido- but we call him Bandit. I also had a dog named Nacho at one point.

I have two chiweenies (chihuahua/daschund mix) one is Gordita Schnitzel (Gordy) and Princess Blondie.
In the past I had a black dog that looked like a small lab and she was Dolly Madison.
Then there was Ginger Snap, Smiley, Sassy, Candy, Bear, Patches, Charlie and a few others I can't remember their names anymore

LOL HamSandwich...Taco, Burrito, and Nacho...that is hilarious!

My Basset is Persephone after the Greek goddess of springtime, but I call her Persie. My Basset/Chow/Spitz mix is named Kip, but he came to me from the rescue group with that name. I named my 3 cats after hunky TV characters (Zeke, Winston, and Horatio). Sadly, whenever I've named one of them, the TV show gets cancelled within a year or so -- so watch out CSI: Miami/David Caruso!

I love the name Ridley for a male or female dog. Or try finding the name of a place that you love that would make a good dog's name. My Mom's dogs are named Dillon and Aspen (towns in Colorado), and my "nephew dog" is named Pico (after the mountain in Vermont.)

Then again, when I lived in Greece, my next door neighbor's dog was named "Dog," but I don't really suggest that for somewhat obvious reasons.

OR, you could go with HamSandwich's theme and try "Enchilada" or "Chili con Carne."

"HamSandwich," by the way, is hilarious also! As a USER name, I mean. Obviously. NOT as a dog's name. Again, obviously.

What a fun topic, so much creativity!

My chihuahua is named Lola. I used to have one named Clyde because he walked like a Clydesdale horse. I also used to have a corgi mix named Elmer. She was a she, but she looked like an Elmer

I had a neighbor whose dog's name was Gizmo. We really liked that and the dog had a lot of character. Our current dog is a Llewellan Setter (English Setter). Her name is Daisie. Other dogs have been very uninspired, Blackie, Sugar, Queenie, Lady, Buffy.

Good luck

I once had a black lab named Friday. She was adorable. Our dogs name now is Jasmine. We call her Jazz for short. Hope this helps!

I knew someone who named their dog Kitty. There are just so many great names. My suggestion would be to wait until you've had the dog for a week or two so you can pick a name that fits the personality.

Our dogs name is Mollie also! She is a Border Collie and didn't name her that because it rhymed, just worked out that way. We were down to three names and my husband and I couldn't decide - so we let our 4 yr old nephew pick which one - The other names were Megan and Jetta (means black and I drove a VW Jetta at the time).
We have two cats now Sasha and Murray. People names.
We had three other cats that we we had named based on Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer characters! Bumble (for the Abomidable (sp) Snowman) he was a huge white ball of fur. Then there was Herbie (for the Elf that wanted to be a dentist) A couple years later we found out the name is actually Hermie! And Yukon Cornelius, we called him Yukie (for the Lumberjack) - Unfortunately they are no longer with us - so we stopped that tradition!

We have friends who have named their dogs and cats people names. Norman, Stanley, Jack, Willie, Bonnie, Clyde.

We used a baby name book and poured through it - worth a shot!
Good Luck!

Our family dog (a mutt, male) was named Bill (after Bill Clinton, to be honest, he had just gotten elected when we adopted the dog). My boyfriend's family had a black lab (female) named Shadow, and now they have a mutt named Boo (as in "boo boo").

In the past, my family has had dogs named Akiba, Schroeder, Holly, and Scruffy, and cats named Mrs. Beezy and Gray Cat (yes, Gray Cat was a gray cat!).

A friend of mine had a dog named Phred, I thought that was hilarious. I love human names for pets, especially for males, like George or Bob or Charlie.

The tradition in our family is that if you name an animal it's yours. My dad named one cat Jamesina (his name is James) which eventually morphed into Jasmine. Then there was Francis (St. Francis - patron saint of animals). Momma Kitty, Peepee Girl (she had to stay outside for obvious reasons), Hmandu (silent H, the vet laughed but no one else got it). Dogs growing up were Charlie Brown & Lucy, Lynx, Whitney, & Boomer (just showed up on the door) which morphed into Booger.

I just got a puppy a few weeks ago and he still doesn't have an official name. Every time I picked out a name and told somebody, they said they didn't like it and offered up a new one. He's been Chico, Fleidermus, Vitello, Vaquito, Cyrus, Simon, Whiskey, RC, & Little Bit. He seems to have settled into Punk which is short for either Fonzi Punkarelli or Punkin depending on whether he's been good or bad.
