SO itchy! Help?

  • Yesterday I had a couple of small skin pieces removed to check for dysplatic cells. Today the wounds are SO ITCHY! I can't put hydrocortizone on them. Anyone have any thoughts? I've refrained from scratching so far but it's so hard! The doctor was sympathetic but basically just said "Sorry, it'll quit as it heals." I cannot cover them as I am allergic to adhesives so no bandaids or tape etc. HELP! It is driving me nuts!
  • what about just wrapping non adhesive gauze around them and tying it in place, if that is an option. Not sure where they took the skin pieces from, but this would work for arm/lower leg/neck at least.
  • Why can't you put hydrocortizone on them?

Also I've had success with icing things that itch, like bug bites. Maybe try an ice cube on it??
  • Can you put the neosporin + pain relief cream on the wounds? That works well for me.
  • I get a lot of skin biopsies and have similar problems with allergies to adhesives. On the itchiest days I take benedryl which probablybonly serves to make me sleepy but that seems to help.
  • My husband just had to have a small skin cancer removed and the doc told him to put vaseline on it to promote healing, keep it moist, and prevent drying and itching. Seems to be working as the wound is healing very well. Hope yours feels better soon!
  • Our dermatologist recommended getting vitamin E capsules, poking a pin hole in them, and using the liquid you squeeze out. Doesn't take much and seems to work quite well. It absorbs quick and doesn't leave things sticky.
