  • It seems like forums are helping me with a whole lot of things these days, starting with weight loss.
I'm in a totally new mental disposition and I' d love to be able to take care of my house properly. I need help however. I always need a little bit of help with an initial push, and I love to be in a community of people who share the same concerns about a particular subject. I'd also like to have opinions, tips etc.
Do you know a good forum that can help me in that sense?
Like some that will have as challenge something like "clean ya bathroom by spring challenge'' LOL
Seriously I need one. Please recommend if you can.
    THANKS!!!
  • I like Don Aslett's books. Below is a link to a blog that talks about his books and some other household stuff.

Have you looked at Fly Lady? I don't love this one, but it seems to be helpful to a lot of folks.
  • If you don't mind a little profanity, Unf*** Your Habitat has been helping me transition into better house cleaning. They have a website and tumblr. It's not a forum, but they have a lot of cleaning challenges and the goal of the site, in part, is breaking the marathon cleaning cycle by handling your cleaning/maintenance in small chunks.

You can search google for it minus the asterisks. I won't post the link here to avoid offending anyone with the language.
  • Thanks, gailr42 and atmos I'll check those out. I'm more motivated than ever!
  • Atmos, I've been looking at the UF your habitat. She's pretty funny and has a way of simplifying things. Like you said, not for the faint of heart, language-wise.
  • About four years ago I read somewhere that you should set a timer for 20 minutes every day, and declutter/clean. It works for me! I set the timer, and actually sort of play "beat the clock." And, because I do it daily, I find myself doing general cleaning, picking up, after myself all day, because I know it will be part of my 20 minutes the next day. It works for me, and I have a complete eversion to housework.

I read that too! 15 min everyday I think. The thing is I'm SCARED of making this a daily commitment something. I can't explain it and I don't know if anyone understands me. Given, I have those 15 min every day but don't wanna clean lol. I think I'll start with 5 minutes. That I can do!
It seems like I suffer from acute anti-homecleanitis. lol

gailr42 lol. That might be the right one for me. Who knows?
  • flylady.com is really good. Considering how I feel about cleaning, I will definitely check out the UF Your Habitat. It already sounds like something I'd like!
  • I do my 20 minutes a day when I get home from the YMCA - - I walk into the kitchen, set my timer, empty my gym bag, start the laundry, make my bed, load or unload the dishwasher, dust or vacuum or do one bathroom. When the timer goes off, I am done! I do occasionally organize cabinets/drawers/closet shelves or clean my windows/blinds when the mood strikes. I am amazed at what a difference the 20 minutes has made. If a neighbor drops by, I no longer run outside to meet them, or speak through the screen door; I now invite them in! GREAT big difference for me.
  • Try the decluttering thread on this forum. I ran across it a while ago and the people there use a lot of the resources mentioned here to motivate themselves to create a better home environment, one step at a time.

I don't post there but I do admire their progress. They may have updated to a new thread my now though.

The fly lady is the one I remember. She is good and intense.
  • I do have 2 tips that helped me unclutter a bit and I love it.
    1. I cleaned out my junk drawer. I couldnxt stand all the mess I went to the dollar store and bought about 4 little baskests that could fit in the draw and I seperated the junk . It looked and works great. 2 years later itxs still nice and tidy.

    2. I purchased these lucite makeup organizers from Marshalls and put them on my dresser. omg I don't even have makeup in them but they are awesome. My husband saw my side of the dresser and he wined and said I want some organizers too. So I went and bought home a few for him to pick from. Since they come in different sizes and shapes you need to pick what works for you. In Marshalls they're in the section with the laundry items .

Oncr you get something neat and organized you want to keep it that way.

I hope, it helped everybody looking for such ones. That is why while searching the necessary company to take part in your household cleaning is necessary to make sure in its quality. And forums can be a rather good way to do so.

It is the main question I ask my friends when they order the mentioned type of services. As for me, it is not enough to ask for assistance and waiting for the completion. It is necessary to check the work and sometimes even monitor how the work is done. With the help of these guys, for instance. And after everything is done I evaluate the quality of cleaning. And how good it is.
  • I'm on facebook groupes and pages for home cleaning, organisation, decorations, ... etc
