Hey John,

Thanks for posting this, I find it quite interesting. I will be grateful to lose this weight once I finally get it off, but that's not the way I will do it.

Take care.

Most interesting is if you read through you see he was doing two hours of cardio a day. I am pretty sure he could have had similar results in weight loss with a far higher amount of calories. (He seemed to be eating around 300 calories a day on average)

He said he was extremely lethargic throughout and therefore burning far fewer calories than someone who didn't feel like the walking dead.

John,

I admire this guy for losing all of the weight, that's awesome. A 300 calorie a day diet seems extremely restrictive, I am glad that he is physically alright. He mentioned health concerns from this diet, it sounds quite risky to eat so little. Still, my hat goes off to him, he completed quite a feat.

Thank you for posting!

Wow - kudos to the willpower... 300 calls per day is insane. But pathetic as it is, I'd probably do it if I could. Just being honest.

Thanks for the link. I think it's really interesting to read his comments about how it affected him emotionally and socially.

As much as I hate myself for saying it, I do agree with SuperHeroTeacher. If I thought I could do it, I probably would.

That being said, the thing that changed my mind and hit me the most was this line in what that guy said, which I've also heard many people who have lost weight say, which was "Losing weight did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to improve my self image; that came from learning to love myself."

I keep wondering if there's some quick, easy way to lose weight, until I slap myself and realize that just losing weight is not the answer to all my problems, and trying to do it in an unhealthy way could cause more problems than it solves.

This breaks my heart. The amount of self loathing must have been incredibly high for this method to even be considered, much less executed.

I must be dense, but I can't figure out how long ago he reached "goal" weight. How long has he been in maintenance? There are so many posts and I could only once find the word "maintain" and it was about hygiene.

Clearly was not a 400lb+ guy and more like a 300lb max one. I would put him at about 280lbs SW.

The main problem with his approach would be muscle loss.

If you don't get the diet and the exercise right then the muscle disappears with the fat.

Everything I have tried to aim for in my diet/exercise routine tries to preserve/build muscle while reducing body fat.

In practical terms, this means lots of exercise, lots of protein and complex carbs combined with all the other good stuff e.g. vitamins, minerals, and OMEGA 3s BABY! Good fats rule (if you exercise)!
