OMG! I'm so crazy I just cut my own hair...

  • AND IT LOOKS AWESOME!!! I followed the advice in this article:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/ar...ting-hair.html

I've given myself a trim from time to time before, but this method is to give yourself layers. I did not cut mine as short as the lady in the article, and I also didn't do the vertical cuts at the end for as long as she said she did (five minutes would have left me with no hair at all!). It came out gorgeous- much better than any salon I've ever been to. Very pretty, natural layers that aren't chunky or choppy at all. Mine don't look as '70's as hers do, either.

I highly recommend trying it. I did it today because I had the time to go immediately to the hair salon if I really messed it up, so that helped with courage. I also did it twice- once without cutting much length at all, just to be cautious, and then a more dramatic change after I realized the method actually worked.

I sort of can't wait to tell people I did it myself!!
  • I am so trying this tonight!!
  • I just researched this very topic myself today. I have long hair and have been giving myself a blunt cut for a couple of years. I want layers, and thought there must be a method out there for do-it-yourself-ers. I found this tutorial and was going to try it tonight. I like your method better! It can't hurt to try! I'm terrified of hair dressers. I never get what I want and walk away thinking, "What did I pay for?" I can mess up my own hair for free! I'm glad you posted!
  • Update: I was walking into a restaurant this evening when a woman stopped me and asked me, "where do you get your hair done?" She was shocked that I had done it myself and was not a professional. Everyone I went to dinner with could not believe I did it myself, they thought I was kidding. Never going to the salon again!
  • Once I tried cutting my hair, which lead to me a disaster of cutting it too short. This cut will be better for hair with large volume. I had to go for Remy hair for compensating my hair.
  • Tried it last night worked great!! Exactly how I wanted it!! Thanks for posting it
  • Ok, this sounds very interesting! I've had layered hair for years and love it. Lately it's been impossible to get in to see the hairdresser that I really like. I might have to muster up the courage to give this a try.
  • I tried it just a little bit. I layered just the ends of my long hair. I'm going to wash it and live with it for a few days and maybe go a little shorter. This is a great development. I had mastered the blunt cut, which is hard to do on yourself and get it even, but I had no idea how to do layers. Thanks again for sharing with us!
  • I use to do that all the time when I was younger. I think I skipped the salon for a good 10-12 years. I occasionally still do it myself, but I do like getting my hair washed and cut by someone else...because it just feels like I'm getting pampered then
  • I did this the other day too, and it looks FREAKING AMAZING!!!
  • I know I actually got more compliments then when I go to the salon! I am so stoked about this!
  • This is my standard "it's 2 am and I have PMS and I hate my hair" haircut (which is what happens when it's 2 am and I have PMS and I hate my hair and I'm ALL OUT OF HAIRCOLOR). So if you're wondering, YES, it works with curly hair.
  • I tried this a few days ago. I'm pretty happy with the results. I initially took off an inch and since that looked okay, I took a little more off. The only part I messed up were my bangs, and that's just because I free-handed them and got them crooked. I'm going to have my mom straighten them up.
