Progress pics on facebook?

Is it a bad idea to post my progress pics on Facebook? I've thought about it but I don't know if I want all that attention...what do y'all think?

mammasita 04-30-2012 11:10 AM

It's all about how YOU feel about it. I don't do it because I dont like to broadcast everything I do, but if its something you're comfortable doing and don't mind the feedback, go for it. Make sure you double check your security settings so only those you WANT to see your pics will see them.

I did xD...I posted one when I hit 212(without telling anyone my weight) and posted the link to my video on there...All the responses were positive and if your not shy about it, then go for it :)

I agree with person above me btw...just do what your comfortable with :)

Totally up to you, whatever you are comfortable with. I will probably post before and after pics once I hit my goal weight, but definitely not before that. I like to live in denial on Facebook and think that most people on there have no idea that I've gotten so fat, so they don't need to know until after I've lost it all! haha.

Depends on you and the crowd you have on FB. I posted progress pictures mainly because I was starting to see people I hadn't seen in a while so I figured I might as well let the cat out of the bag.

Everyone was awesome, but I've heard of others having bad experiences posting progress pictures.

If you are confident enough to put yourself out there like that then go for it! I have friends who share their diet struggles and successes on FB and they get nothing but positive support and love from their friends . I just am too self-conscious, too afraid that maybe I won't be successful, and then it's just embarrassing. But those are my insecurities! Go for it if that's what you want!

Oh, I also don't think it's too attention-seeking if you're worried about that. It's an accomplishment. A body building friend might post competition pics; an athelete might post with her most recent award... etc. Accomplishments are accomplishments and you deserve the recognition you'd get! :)

I've got one album in my FB called "Weight Loss Progress," which I keep a handful of weight-loss related photos in. I enjoy sharing mainly because most of my friends are long-distance and already know that I've always struggled with my weight anyway. I don't mind letting everyone know that I'm working hard and have been able to show some progress, because it really is a part of my life and who I am. I keep it minimal and have gotten nothing but positive responses over it.

I don't go crazy posting the calories of every meal I eat, or brag about how many calories I've burned for the day, lol. To be honest, it annoys me when others do that outside of a setting such as 3FC, TOPS meetings, or other places set up specifically for health issues and weight management discussion, and I imagine it would be annoying to my friends if I filled their walls with every little detail of my weight loss efforts. The way I see it, there's a time and place for everything. ;)

I think it's something I will do after I've lost quite a bit more. But I very regularly post links to my blog which discusses my weight loss journey (minus the numbers exactly), and I often post statuses about my workouts. I do it mainly to be held more accountable. For me, if I put it out there I'm less likely to give up.

If you are comfortable with people talking about it a lot and the possibility of negative and positive comments, then do it! Likely you will get positive feedback. Me, I am self conscious and a private person, so its not really my thing.

astrophe 04-30-2012 12:51 PM

I wouldn't.

I deliberately keep my FB lite, G rated. It isn't just relatives and friends there. It's network people in my volunteering and they don't need to know THAT much about me!

If you wanted to keep progress pix dump them online elsewhere, and then open a thread here.

It's up to you. I don't do it because I have people on there who are, uh..."frenemies"...so I avoid it. I know (think?) you can set up privacy settings to keep them from seeing certain things but it's not so important to me that I'd waste that kind of time on it.

samcakes 04-30-2012 03:23 PM

i wont do public progress pics, my family is pushy about me losing weight tho, so if it went too slow, or you couldnt see a difference, i would feel like i was dissapointing them

ValRock 04-30-2012 03:40 PM

I don't, just because it's nobody's business!!! They obviously notice because I post pictures of myself with my kids and stuff... but I don't do it for the express purpose to document my weight loss. I just don't want the attention. If you're comfy enough for it, more power to you!

redrose8988 04-30-2012 04:32 PM

Personally I wouldn't because I like surprising people when I see them. So if I've lost 15 or 20 lbs, I like meeting up with them and getting that "wow! you look great!" reaction. Or if you're tagged in a photo where you look smaller and people comment on it without you needing to point out the wait. It's a NSV for me.
