Default Heaven...

So I was working this weekend. I take care of a 3 year old. She and I were talking about presents for Christmas and such. She asked about my family and the presents I got them. My dad's...then she was like 'Your mommy?' and I was like ....o.o

She then asked where my mommy was. She's met my husband's mom (calls her Nana-so cute)...and never really asked about mine til now.

I had to think for a second.

My answer...'In Heaven'

She wanted to know if we could send presents there. I was trying not to cry and just said 'No, you can't send presents there'.

How sweet! I would have answered a bit differently, though, because my Mom is in Heaven too. I would have no, you can't send presents there but you can give presents to someone *here* who is in need, to honor the person who is in Heaven. I grew up really poor and there were people who helped us. My Mom always told me in later years that she was really glad that I am involved in outreach through my church and stuff because of all those who did it for us. So often now when I am able to do something for someone who needs it, I say "This is for you, Mom." And yes, I do believe she hears and sees.

Well I was just shocked and didn't know what to say. She had never really asked about my mom before. She knows my husband's mom (Nana to her) but now that she's getting older and smarter she's more curious.

She's only 3 and the idea of giving for charity isn't in her capacity. Plus it's not my place to teach her such things as she's not my child. I'm sure her mom would want her to give presents like that though. *shrug*

I also grew up poor and we had presents each year that came from charity and second hand stores. My mom did what she could and I'm grateful for it. I'm glad I didn't grow up having useless junk. Most of our presents were things we needed (clothes, things for school, etc).

Good points... too much for a 3 year old plus you were caught off guard. It i hard to know what to say at such times.

that's very sweet. I light candles for my mother, you could tell her you light a candle, and that's your gift of love to your mother in heaven.

I actually do the things my mom used to...or I try to at least. I get presents for my family and send them 'home' (moved away over 4 years ago ). I hate that I can't do everything the way she did. The holidays were my mom's favorite time. *shrug*
