Default Random Computer Question

I know you guys are often great with these types of random questions.

I have a cheap HP laptop.

The arrow up key does not work and the clicker button for the touch pad does not work (I use a cordless mouse instead).

does anyone know where I would go to get this fixed (or who I could call to get an estimate). It's more of an inconvenience than anything else. If someone could fix it easy for not too much money I'd really be interested.

Thanks

My husband said he doesn't know about HP specifically, but that generally you can replace the keyboard on a laptop very easily. A new keyboard for a laptop will probably cost about $20-25 online; it's something you'd need to place an order for. He said that if you took it somewhere to be fixed instead (a computer store, Best Buy or something like that) they'd charge a lot more.

He said that if you'll post what kind of laptop it is, he'll look up the cost of a keyboard for you.

Thank you so much, it's an HP Pavilion dv4

I have a very tech savy brother who is away studying computer science at a top tech school. He could definately help me with an order online DIY type deal next time he comes home. That would be perfect.

also if you find the keyboard and price please post a link if you can. Thanks again .

Scarlett, my husband said that with the model laptop you have, the keyboard and mouse buttons are separate, and so both the keyboard and case (?) need to be replaced to fix both. Fortunately, both are inexpensive ($14 for the keyboard, $29 for the case). Here are the links he provided, including a video for help with doing the replacement yourself in case that's helpful for you or your brother.

Good luck with the computer!

Thank you so much. That would be perfect. A cheap and easy fix.

I'm a little short on funds lately and really only use my laptop to goof off online. I don't need anything fancy.

I got this laptop 2.5 years ago and it's still working relatively well. Especially considering I keep it on practically all the time.

I just put a new battery in and wiped my hard drive to get rid of all the software I no longer use. It's now been running much faster and doesn't overheat anymore. While I'm at it I'll take care of this too. It'll be just like new. Then Hopefully I'll be able to get at least another 2 years out of this $500 laptop. Thanks again.
