Need gift help
 

Coming up I have my DH's 40th b-day, our 4th anniversary, and my dad's 80th b-day. I am horrible at choosing gifts and they are difficult even for people who aren't so horrible at it. They are both the sort that never want or need anything. They are both having milestone birthdays though, so I can't just let them pass without a gift. My DH is really sentimental about our anniversary, so I need to get him something. Help!

They may not "need or want anything," but everyone could do with a little extra fun. I like to give things that people can interact with, like games, books, tickets to events, or gift certificates for activities. Last Christmas I got my bf a flight lesson off groupon.

For people who don't need anything my first thought is "Then we'll DO something."

Be it a nice restaurant, or a day out apple picking, or taking a hike with a picnic, or watching a play, or going to a concert.

I always like DOING over stuff anyways. Better memories.

The doing could work for DH, but my dad is older with some health problems and deaf, he doesn't really like to go do much.

My mom once bought my dad a trip on a hot air balloon. He loved it and it's a pretty unique gift.

Is there anything he likes to stay home and do? Or something you could bring to him? Even making his favorite meal at home for him could be a treat.

Again, if things aren't his thing. (Hah! Odd wording) Making a thoughtful card, and spending the whole day with him on his birthday might actually be a huge gift, and exactly what he was hoping for.

Another possibility is taking a nice picture together on his birthday and then getting a frame for him to hang it on the wall.

Perhaps a meaningful card telling him how much he means to you and how much you apperciate his raising you up and being a wonderful dad. Spend the day or a couple hours with him, have a meal with him.

Does he have any friends around? Maybe a small dinner party or a nice bottle of his favorite booze? lol

When in doubt, a good bottle of scotch will make my dad happy.

For your dad, maybe a gift card to a restaraunt that delivers? Or, we have a delivery service here (can't remember the name at the moment) that prints out a booklet with menus from every restaraunt in the area. The delivery costs a little extra but it can be sooo worth it when you want something and can't get out. I got my mom a gift card for that service once, enough to pay for the meal and delivery charge.

Take your husband paintballing. It's a ton of fun and a great bonding experience.

For my dad DH and I are going to be going to visit for his b-day. We're planning for all of his kids to be there. It will be the first time in years we've all been together and the last time was for a sad reason, my mother's funeral in 2001. We are doing a big dinner (apparently my brother is ordering kobe beef). I just feel like I should get him something from just me though and have no idea what. He really doesn't like to go to restaurants and such and on the rare occasions that he does he likes to be the one to pay for it.

Crystal - I wish it were that easy. My dad is also a recovering alcoholic.

couldnt agree more! I think for the anniversary you could do a weekend away :)! Idk what you have around you but for my moms bday we got her a weekend at a near casino and for my brother and his gf for xmas i got them a weekend at howes caverns which is an underground cave thingy and they all had a blast and thanked me so much for all the fun they had. if you can afford that maybe just one day away at somewhere not so far?

My ex had this one picture he loved of me so i bought a gorgeous frame and framed it for him and he put it on his nightstand and loved it that could be something from just you :)

Once I was doing something Via Ferrata/Zip Line activity with friends and we were paired with a couple celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. They were doing that together, it's a physical activity, it's usually in a really cool landscape and after that you really get a feeling like ''YAY we DID it''

They were the cutest up there, just celebrating that day and encouraging each other :)
