Default Mel's back in the hospital. Acute pancreatitis.

Mel is my granddaughter and the mother of my great granddaughter.

Her pancreas enzymes are over 7,000 & should be 200. They did some sort of surgery on her yesterday and sent her home. She was in pain and throwing up all night. She's back in there again today.

Please pray for her and our family. She's so scared right now.

Update from my daughter, TK:

"Thursday they took the stent out that was draining her biliary duct to treat the pancreatitis last time. They think the procedure irritated the duct again, & she developed pancreatitis again. They did a lot of labs & she's also on iv antibiotics in case elevated white cell count is from pancreatitis. Will know more after tmrw's labs are back."

Thank you for all the prayers.

My mother almost died from that a few years ago. There was a specialist at Northwestern Memorial hospital in Chicago that saved her life. Supposedly, he's the best in the nation.

There are many ups and even more downs with this terrible disease, as I'm sure you well know. Don't be afraid to switch doctors if things keep getting worse. I believe my mom would not be here today if we stayed with the local doc.

I was praying for everyone here anyway, but I'll add a special extra prayer for your family.

Thanks everyone. Thank you so much. She's still in there with 2 separate IVs going plus injections. She still has quite a bit of nausea. She had changed her diet and was good with that, so we don't think that caused it. They keep going back to the stent removal and that irritating the pancreas. Her blood work showed some improvement but more improvement is needed before they will let her go home.

Fitness, I'm so glad your mom made it through this painful stuff. I'll ask about the doctor when I talk with my daughter.

From what I understand, it is more painful than when I have a complete massive attack from my diverticulitis. (I'm in diverticulosis right now and that is where I want to keep it.)

Insist to keep her in the hospital as long as possible.

cbmare, yeah, I've never seen my mom in such pain before. They had her on Morphine and boy did that do a whack job number on her! I wish I had better words of encouragement. I'm glad you're going to check the doc. My mom's first doc had very little experience treating pancreatitis and was reluctant to do further surgery. The specialist took one look at her, operated the very next day and said the necrosis was the worst he had ever seen in a patient that survived. Whew!

Also, read, read, read and double check what her symptoms are, what the doc says on cross check it with what you've learned. The first doc was making mistakes that even I could figure out which led to our fam taking the lead away from my over trusting father and we got her switched to the better hospital.

My heart goes out to you. It's such a long battle.
