I want to be a country singer...like for real.

  • So one of my goals for losing weight is to try my hand at a singing career. I graduated college and have this whole degree in Geography and Meteorology, but my passion in life is singing. I'm not on of those American Idol people who are completely awful. I'm not stupid, I'm very musical and play multiple instruments as well. My father is a musician and is a singer as well (80s hair band h*ll yeah)

So, my only set back is that I'm overweight. I am almost 24 and feel like if I don't try this now and get out there and do it my chance will pass me by and I'll be old one day going....why didn't I do it? SO I don't know what the point of this post is really. To just put it out there I guess and get support from someone telling me to follow my dream.
  • Sunshine--losing weight so that you can follow your dream is a great goal and motivator! I wish you all the luck in the world with your weight loss goal and, more importantly, with your singing aspirations.

    Cheers,

    J
  • Good luck!!!

You're only young and unencumbered by responsibilities to others for such a little while. Don't wait, just get out there and do your thing. If there was anything I could tell my 24 year old self, it would be that. Your chance will NEVER pass you by, but many things are more accessible when you're younger and responsible only to yourself.

Also, if you're lucky enough to know what your passion really is, at least give yourself the chance to follow it. So many people never really know what they want to be when they grow up.
  • Good luck!!!
  • Its good to have a goal to help keep you focused. A good way to get noticed is maybe get a youtube account and post videos of your singing and songs. I wish only the best for you.
  • Thanks everyone!
  • Go ahead, give it a try. You have your degree to fall back on, you can work in your field while you try to break into the business-well, I guess you can work. What does a geography major do? Meterology is the weather right?
And you can work on the weight loss and singing at the same time. I think in country music, fans are a little more forgiving about weight.

I agree with the youtube idea, seems like several people have gotten starts on that.
  • I hope you achieve your dreams!
  • Trisha Yearwood has had a hugely successful career and she has had periods where she has been heavier than the average girl. I say go for it. If you can sing, then give it a shot and don't let a few curves stand in your way. You can work on both your career and your figure at the same time.

    Good luck!
  • Good luck!
I've been told countless of times to never
follow my dreams (people think I'm too
ambitious). And maybe I am, but oh well?
I'm too stubborn to listen to them anyways
and I'm following my dreams. It's good
that you're not giving up either.
