But yes...choose your battles.Appreciate people for their differences.I continue to learn things every day from those I do not agree with 100%.
I'm going to make a quick comment here and then close this thread, I hope you don't mind. I might be feeling a tad defensive and biased right now because one of our moderators passed away today and I'm very sad at the moment, and I certainly don't want any of our moderators blamed or insulted just as our members don't deserve the same treatment.
Our moderators are volunteers, as some of you pointed out, and it isn't just their time that they give freely. They have invested their hearts and souls into maintaining a very special support system here, which is very difficult at times. Despite having their own personal lives, jobs, families, loves and losses to deal with daily, they still come here and check in on you all. I'm very grateful to each and every one of them. This community would not exist without them.
That said, I want to make it very clear that the person who was banned from this site was not banned just due to a disagreement with a moderator. One of the tasks our mods undertake is deleting posts that are offensive or spark complaints from other members. When someone is hurt, we step in. When a long term member is banned, it is not done lightly and is usually the result of a long and difficult battle. If you have not seen the offensive posts, then you can thank the moderators. No member, no matter how long a member, is allowed to repeatedly attack, insult, and berate other members and/or mods. I didn't want to go that far into an explanation. The truth is that it's nobody's business except the person banned and the people that complained. But under the circumstances, I am not going to stand by and allow anyone to claim a banning was unjustified and was the result of a personal issue with a particular moderator. There was much more to this story. We've been here for more than 10 years. Many of you have been with us since the beginning. You know we don't take actions like this lightly. Of all the bannings on this website, the vast majority have been spammers. I can probably count the number of legitimate members that have been banned on one hand. I assure you, this was not an easy choice but enough is enough.
