Do you tip pet groomers?
I took my cat to a groomer to have some matted hair shaved. I wrote a check for the exact amount and left. About half way home I wondered if I should have tipped.
I've never taken a pet to a groomer before and it looks like my dog is going next, so I just want to know if tipping is common. Thanks! |
I do. The amount depends on the time spent. About $3-5/hr.

I do for our dog. I politely asked them the first time what was a "usual" tip and what they offered sounded reasonable, so that is what I give them. I figure I tip for a hair cut, and my dog's getting kind of the same thing :)

Thanks so much! I used to work in the beauty industry and we appreciated tips, so it only makes sense that groomers would get tipped as well.
Plus, I rarely had to worry about my clients biting me! Thanks again! |
I think the protocol is to thank/tip anyone who has done a service for you.... paperperson, hairdresser, dog walker/groomer, babysitters, teachers, mailperson, sanitation worker...... ohhh the list grows and grows!! :)
Edit-- oh I thought you were talking about holiday gifts!!.. well you can tip regularly and/or holiday gift/tip. I received a holiday gift (sweets of course) just yesterday and I was thinking--- gosh it's early! soooo it's on my mind :) |
25 Reasons why your dog's Haircut costs more than yours...
1. Your haircut takes 20-30 minutes, your dog's takes much longer. 2. Your hairdresser doesnt give you a manicure & pedicure. 3. Your Hairdresser only clips the hair on your head. 4. You don't have fleas, ticks, or mites. 5. Your Hairdresser is not expected to comb out dreadlocks. 6. Your hairdresser doesnt clean your ears. 7. You dont try to bite your hairdresser. 8. You stay still and dont wiggle, jump and shake while being worked on with sharp scissors & tools. 9. Your hairdresser doesn't wash your butt 10. You don't come in with mud, burrs, sticks, tar, sap, gum, foxtails, and poop in your hair. 11. You don't shake and cover everything (including your hairdresser) in 2 inches of soapy water. 12. Your Hairdresser doesn't have to shave between your toes. 13. You can tell your hairdresser if something's wrong, she doesn't have to guess. 14. You don't poop whilst your hairdresser is blow drying your backside. 15. Your hairdresser doesn't cuddle you and stroke you when you get nervous. 16. You don't walk into your hairdresser with hair that hasn't been brushed in 6 weeks (or 6 months). 17. You don't scream at the top of your lungs every time the Hairdresser picks up a pair of nail clippers. 18. You don't whip around in a frenzy as soon as your hairdresser goes to clip around your ears. 19. You don't try to hump your hairdresser's leg. 20. You don't play chicken with a skunk right before your appointment. 21. You don't pee, poop, or throw up in the hairdresser's chair. 22. You don't wait until you're clean and dry to go potty and sit in it. 23. You don't dig your fingernails into your hairdresser's arm. 24. You don't roll in dead things 25. Your hairdresser probably won't love you if you do any of the above. (in fact they would probably have you arrested). |
so glad you asked this! i was wondering the same thing today as i made an appointment for my puppy to go to the groomer!

as a vet i use to work in a clinic that had a groomer. You don't have to tip...but it is a nice suggestion.
jmb...LOL..that's a good one! |
I take one of my dogs to get groomed and shaved down every few months. I typically give a $10 tip.
:) |
My mother-in-law did some pet grooming at PetSmart for a while and she usually received tips from every customer. I wouldn't have known that if it wasn't for her.

tips? Hah! |
My best friend is a new groomer and she told me that it is always nice to get a tip. Especially because there is so much work involved and groomers typically do not make that much an hour. So now I know it is protocol to tip your groomers!!!

No - but it's the owner who has done my 4dogs, 4x year, 13years+.
|
I have wondered that also.
The last lady I went to was the owner/groomer and she charged $50 for my border collie sized dog. I felt that was plenty, so I did not. |
