Default OOooohhh, PAIN and comfort eating and drinking :(

Every few months or so I get mouth ulcers. They are sooo painful; I can't eat normal food... especially since one is on the tip of my tongue. I do remember biting my tongue a few days ago, but I also have one all the way in the back of the inside of my cheek. Not sure how I got that one.

I'm miserable, plus it's TOM. Humph!
I've tried just about everything to numb the pain. NOTHING WORKS

Swish hydrogen peroxide around in your mouth for a few minutes a few times a day. BE SURE TO SPIT and not swallow! That makes those go away really fast.

Peroxide works wonders in drying them up and healing.
Good luck

Hah. I was just going to suggest the same thing. My mom was a dentist and she swore by "swishing" peroxide for just about everything.

Sounds like canker sores. If you get them very frequently, you should check with your doctor.

Baking soda on the sores sometimes helps, and it's not as potentially hazardous as hydrogen peroxide, which can actually damage healthy tissues. I have read that you should dilute the hydrogen peroxide with water 50/50 if you choose to use it.

Many years ago, my family used a canker sore remedy called Humphreys. I believe it contained zinc in a liquid form. I don't know that it's available now. However, I personally would rather go with homeopathic remedies or more natural remedies than take the antibiotics and steroids route. I am not a doctor, and this isn't intended as medical advice.

Good luck in finding something to help the pain!

Jay

Unfortunately, I don't know where to get hydrogen peroxide here... they don't even sell rubbing alcohol at the grocery store or chemist!

I did try one medicine that helped with the one I had in the back of my mouth, but it made the one on my tongue worse... better now though. I'm just using ambecol (sp?) to numb it. Tomorrow will be a week since I bit myself.

I tried baking soda when I was a kid and it hurt like heck and didn't get rid of it; so, I probably won't go there again.

I will find out where to get hydrogen peroxide and keep it on hand for next time. Thanks!

Wow. I'd think hydrogen peroxide would be available anywhere. I can get it at the grocery store or the drug store. Have you asked your pharmacist? If he asks, you want the 3% type.

you may want to think about taking daily supplement of lysine. Most canker sores/ulcers are usually a virus and lysine helps reduce/prevent them. But i agree that you should have a doctor check it out if you are getting a lot of them.

I went to the pharmacist... they're called chemists here; but, none in my neighborhood carry it. I'll be sure to ask though for 3% when I come across it... I know they have it here, but it's just not as easy to find as in the States.

I have canker sores (not contagious), I don't get cold sores. My case is hereditary; my dad gets them and I've been getting them since childhood. Maybe it's our love of spicy food. I did find out that it's more common to get them during TOM... and since I did have spicy Indian food the day before TOM well, I'll just learn to be more careful next time. I will mention it to my doc next time I see him though. I'm a bit of a hypochondriac. I will look into the Lysine to see if it could do anything for me. Thanks
