Default What Is It About Basil?

Isn't BASIL just the coolest herb?

I love it! Angie and I use it often...I pull leaves off our plants and eat them....which makes Angie a little ...from time to time!

She makes a killer dish with Basil, tomatoes, onion, bacon, olive oil and linguine...just love it!

Any BASIL moments in your daily lives? A super BASIL recipe you may be keeping from us?

Just a twist on the standard, cherry tomatoes cut in half, basil chopped up and shredded low-fat mozzarella.

Went to the Farmer's Market for the first time this season on Wednesday, and bought some thai basil for my hanging basket. I had a hard time choosing my basil, as the vendor had thai basil, sweet basil, lemon basil, and cinammon basil.

I love it so much, I'll sometimes, like today, chew on a couple leaves. A lot more effective as a breath freshener than a piece of gum.

penne diavolo ---this is amazing. The serving size is aprox. 1 cup. I make a big bed of spinach and put the pasta on top. SO filling and flavorful. I HIGHLY recommend.

Recipe: Serves 8
(serving size: about 2 cups)
4.5 cups uncooked whole wheat Penne pasta (about ¾ pound)
¼ cup olive oil (divided)
3.5 cups grape tomatoes, washed
¾ teaspoon fresh garlic, minced
10 cups fresh baby spinach
2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 cup Parmigiano Reggiano , finely grated (about 2 ounces)
In a pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil. Add penne and stir until
water boils again. Cook about 7 to 10 minutes or until desired
tenderness. Do not overcook. Pour into colander to remove
water. Pour back into pot and drizzle with 2 tablespoons olive oil
and stir to coat pasta. Cover and keep warm.
Add 2 tablespoons olive oil to a large skillet and place over
medium heat. Add tomatoes and garlic and sauté until
tomatoes are tender. Add spinach and continue to stir and cook
over medium heat until spinach is wilted. (Total time about 5
minutes.)
Add cooked pasta, basil, balsamic vinegar, red pepper flakes
and grated cheese. Stir to combine. Serve immediately.

Here ya go GATORGIRL ~

Ingredients ~ You will have to decide for you how much of each....it doesn't take much but you want to make sure you have enough flavor from each!

Fettuccine or Linguine

Bacon...we use turkey bacon.....chopped

Basil....chopped

onion...chopped

Tomatoes...diced

Olive Oil

Garlic....chopped
..........................

As your pasta is cooking on the stove ~ cook your bacon in the microwave

Saute onion in olive oil until almost clear

add garlic and cook for a bit

add tomatoes and basil and heat through just a little

..............................

Drain pasta add olive oil then basil/tomato/bacon/garlic/onion mix
