Default Jesus Christ Superstar

Angie and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary today by seeing the musical Jesus Christ Superstar in San Diego. We also went out to dinner with all our kids and son/daughter in law meeting us.

Ted Neeley was Jesus in the play today. We saw him way back in the early 70's as Jesus in the movie version. The man can still hit that high/scream note....35+ years later!

Of course I was just a kid way back when the movie came out...barely 18...but I remember there was some flack over the 'religious" aspect of it. Angie and I didn't have a problem with it today...we even went after church...

It was a very good show and still touring...may come to your area...we enjoyed it.

Did you see it or have memories of it?

i've seen it...and love it..but then again..i pretty much love all Andrew lloyd Webber. The funny thing is i'm not longer very religious..however i'm not bothered by the play...and yes i rember some flack about the play and it supposively having some negative religous tones...but i guess i just don't notice that stuff too much. I like the music a lot..althought Phantom of the opera is by far my favorite Webber play. (:

happy aniiversary gary...i'm glad you guys enjoyed your play (:

Unfortunately I haven't seen it, but I'm also a big Phantom fan (heck, I even got my Jock of a hubby into it!!).

If they come here, we'll probably see it.

Happy Anniversary - wishing you many many more wonderful years to come!!!

I've loved the musical since junior high, when our music class studied musicals (yes a public school, probably a shocker today). Every year some time during Lent, it would play on television, but usually at an odd time in the wee hours starting at 1 to 4am. My parents would let me stay up, or set an alarm and get up to watch it. I was the only one interested, so I'd be cuddled on the couch, trying to stay awake with the volume low so I wouldn't wake my grandparents (their bedroom was downstairs just off the living room).

I have tickets to the show here at the end of the month. Can't wait! My mom & sisters are going with me. As a kid, I remember playing the record over & over again and memorizing all the words to the songs. Glad to hear that the show is still great.

I remember watching the movie on TV as a kid and getting a kick out of "rock'n' roll" Jesus. The movie was a big deal in Hawaii because Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdalene was in it. I had the pleasure of meeting her last year and boy, that lady still has some mean pipes. I hope and pray the tour comes to my city, but I doubt it. Glad you enjoyed the show.

HAPPY BELATED ANNIVERSARY TO YOU AND ANGIE!

ANNE wait until you see King Herod at the end...Angie and I had mixed feelings about his final appearence...I think you will understand when you see it.

Thank-you NOELLE ~ Her voice was amazing!! The gal in this one was pretty good but it wasn't the same. According to their site they don't come to Hawaii.

Happy anniversary!

We watched this in a comparative religion class in high school and I fell in love with it! I can hear it now. . . ."my mind is clearer now, at last, all too well, I can see where we all soon will be. . ." Ooh - I think I need to go get my cd's out!

Happy Anniversary!

I saw the live musical... oh, it must have been over 10 years ago here at the National Arts Centre. Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson were in it... oh, my. It was absolutely awesome. The accoustics at the Arts Centre didn't handle Carl's voice very well, unfortunately. By I'll never forget the experience. Ted Neeley sends chills up my spine.

Let's have a singalong!!

(Mary Magdalene)
Try not to get worried
Try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you
(oh) Don't you know
Everything's alright
Yes everything's fine
And we want you to sleep well tonight
Let the world turn without you tonight
If we try
We'll get by
So forget all about us tonight

(Apostles' Women)
Everything's all right
Yes everything's all right yes

(Mary Magdalene)
Sleep and I shall soothe you
Calm you and anoint you
Myrrh for your hot forehead
(oh) Then you'll feel
Everything's all right
Yes everything's fine
And it's cool and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet
Close your eyes
Close your eyes
And relax
Think of nothing tonight

(Apostles' Women)
Everything's all right
Yes everything's all right yes

(Judas)
Woman your fine ointment
Brand new and expensive
Should have been saved for the poor
Why has it been wasted?
We could have raised maybe
Three hundred silver pieces or more
People who are hungry
People who are starving
Matter more
Than your feet and hair

(Mary Magdalene)
Try not to get worried
Try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you
(oh) Don't you know
And we want you to sleep well tonight
Let the world turn without you tonight
If we try
We'll get by
So forget all about us tonight

(women)
Everything's all right
Yes everything's all right yes

(Jesus)
Surely you're not saying
We have the resources
To save the poor from their lot?
There will be poor always
Pathetically struggling
Look at the good things you've got!
Think while you still have me
Move while you still see me
You'll be lost
You'll be so sorry
When I'm gone

(Mary Magdalene)
Sleep and I shall soothe you
Calm you and anoint you
Myrrh for your hot forehead
(oh) then you'll feel
Everything's alright
Yes everything's fine
And it's cool and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet
Close your eyes
Close your eyes
And relax
Think of nothing tonight

(Apostles' Women)
Close your eyes
Alose your eyes
And relax
Think of nothing

Everything's all right
Yes everything's all right yes

(Then it goes into my absolute favorite from this show "I Don't Know How to Love Him")

AWESOME.....
