A co-worker found this note on her second grader's dresser Christmas morning.
Dear Santa: I'm sorry I've been bad. Please don't give me coal. By: ****

Speaking of pears, a guest asked if it was OK to bring a pear appetizer.
"Certainly," I said with confidence that we'd have one more rational food choice.
Turned out that she meant a hot-from-the-oven pear tart where the purpose of the crust was to absorb all the oils and become heavenly. Hardly rational, but certainly yummy.

A rational dish of pears would have been nice.
A pear tart, mmmmm, how tempting.

200 . . .
. . . 300 to go
Can't dally. Covered in snow. Gotta dig.
But I have my coffee and my morning newspaper (leaning against the front door so that I didn't even have to put on my boots to get it) so I can delay a bit.

Are French hens even fit to eat?

I hope you give/gave your paper "boy" a very nice tip this year. Wow - that's service. Whoever it was did that in some mighty crummy weather to save you from going out in it. Well, delayed you going out in it.

Interesting that you thought of that; I did give him a big Christmas tip because his service is stellar. If I sleep as late as 4 am, the paper is waiting for me - always on the porch if not resting on the door itself.
The previous guy just threw it on the sidewalk next to the street - like dropped it out of his car door.

Yeah for paper girls; when I was a kid there weren't any, as in NONE.
Our recycling driver is female - a small female, 5'0" max. She leaps from her truck, moves as rapidly as a UPS driver when dragging the large recycle bins to her truck, dumping them, and then . . . wait for the surprise . . . puts the container back on the curb in a gentle motion. Yeah for hard working people.

I get two papers delivered daily, the Los Angeles Times and our local paper which flat rocks! I think it is one of the few around that is making money. Both delivered by adults, in cars, one male one female.....
Evening paper!? Cathy....we haven't had the option of one of those in 20 years.

I subscribe online to my home town paper, the Ottawa Citizen, but treat myself on the weekends to the Globe and Mail or the NY Times IF I can get them. The times requires a drive to town.
