apple crisp

  • I am looking for a old WW recipe for apple crisp using Grape Nuts on top.
  • Here is link to a site that had the apple crisp recipe- it is the last one on the page of desserts (some of them sound yummy too). The site owner is on WW so the points are already figured out, if you need them.

I would probably use Splenda in it as I do not like to bake/cook with other diet sweeteners, personally. Some of them change to much with heat. Actually, for as little as is needed, sugar would not change the calories all that much- you may even be able to reduce the amount of sugar if you play with the recipe some and use a mixture of sweet apples with one tart one (I find having a variety of cooking apples in my crisp make them even better). I have a fat free apple crisp recipe that I use that has oatmeal, wheat bran, and maple syrup as the main ingrediants- I found I could also use it as a crust for apple and pumpkin pies- yummmy! Also, I find if I use a few spays of liquid butter subsitute (I Can't Believe Its Not Butter or whatever brand you like) on the crisp part, it helps it stay together and gives it the butter taste without the fat and calories. It is also good on the apples to help the cinnamon and a little sugar stick and make a little sauce. Just a couple of sprays is enough.

Here is another one someone had sent me- I have not tried it but with the pineapple juice and the raisons it might be a good change from the basic apple crisp/cobbler-

    APPLE COBBLER/CRISP

8 cups peeled, sliced apples (about 3 pounds)
    3/4 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
    1/2 cup uncooked oatmeal
    1/2 cup raisins
    1 teaspoon nutmeg
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    2 tablespoons maple syrup
    1 cup Grapenuts cereal

Preheat oven to 350. Cover bottom of a non-stick 8-inch square baking pan with oatmeal. Mix together sliced apples, juice, raisins, spices, and honey. Cover oatmeal with mixture. Cover tightly with foil and bake one hour. Remove foil and sprinkle cobbler with Grapenuts cereal. Return to oven, uncovered, and bake 15 minutes. Serve warm or cold. Yields 8 servings.
