Actually I think there are other brands that have completely ripped off the idea of Hostess stuff. I know I saw a not-Hostess brand making Ho-hos, but if I'm just imagining it, doesn't matter, I think companies will start ripping off the idea if they haven't already started.
One of the evil snacks which will remain unnamed I don't eat but maybe once every 5 to 10 years but the moment I heard that they could be no more I suddenly wanted some. I guess it's like when a Dr. tells ya not to do or eat something it's all you want to do. Good news for me the stores around here are sold out.
I LOVED that now defunct company and it has been an American icon for 85 years, plus I have some personal reasons for feeling warm and approving of it.
That said, the particular snack you probably referred to in your original post was pretty much sold out on the 15th here, along with almost all of that product line except I am still seeing bags of chocolate mini donuts on the shelves for some reason. Guess no one craved them.
Sadly there are similar products now filling the spaces on the shelves for anyone who wants them lol.
I agree about making them at home and hope it is okay to say that Cook's Country (and probably its parent magazine, Cook's Illustrated and also one of their PBS TV episodes) has a quite good looking recipe for a certain famous cupcake of the chocolate/creme filled variety that really looks interesting & at least one knows what is in the recipe.
I haven't dared try to make them though lol, would eat them all.
I will miss them for sentimental value, my best friend ad I threw them at our favorite bandon stage back in the day with notes attached to them, we called our selves the pink t******s haha
Wow, since they are folding I'm probablly better off. I don't like the competing boxed treats so I might shake more urges with them gone. I know one thing, in my life I consumed way too much of that product in about 7 different kinds. A major contributer on my obesity.

I have always preferred Tasty Kake cupcakes, the ones without the cream in the middle. I liked the way you could pick up the icing all in one piece and eat it. LOL
I actually just discovered Twinkies and found them a great weight loss tool at only 140 calories for a tender, yummy cake with decadent cream in the middle! Now my treat is no longer available!
Is there another similar-tasting snack cake, made by another company?
It has to be prepackaged; I can't bake my own. I cannot handle baking my own at this point in my journey -- I would eat them all at once if I baked them myself. Thanks!
There are a number of similar ones to the Twinkie. I can't think of the name of the line they have in stores around here but there is a Twinkie like cake among them. It is not a national brand.
If you look at the shelves where Hostess used to be most stores have put in substitutes, at least here. One is that Twinkie like thing.
Also it is only a matter of time (in my opinion lol) before Little Debbie or someone buys out the Hostess product line (actually, I think Hostess had bought out some of the Little Debbie stuff just recently but I could be wrong and am too lazy to google it all). So the real Twinkie will probably return soon, no worries.
I'm not sure I've ever had a hostess product but who knows
There are a number of recipes if you are enterprising enough to bake them. One source are vegans who like them but wanted them in vegan form. Here is a twinkie recipe: http://shmooedfood.blogspot.com/2006...-twinkies.html
