Default Fat and Cals for raw vs. cooked meat

This is something that has always confused me. Tonight I plan on making ground turkey with sauce for dinner (over pasta for kids/husband and spaghetti squash for me). The package says a 4 oz portion is 170 cals and 8 grams of fat. Is that for the raw meat or once it's cooked? Or is it the same for both?? Can someone please clear this up for me? Thanks!!

I weigh the meat I eat after it is cooked, especially anything ground because I drain the fat. To tell you the truth I'm not really sure what the intention of the label is though, cooked vs raw I mean. I would think if you drained the fat that would mean there would be less fat per serving but I would think there'd be no way of knowing for sure then what the calorie content would be.

Anywho, I always measure after cooked and have lost weight all this time doing so, so I'm going to stick to that I think.

I compared calorie counts for raw and cooked lean ground beef. One cup (I'm guessing this is about 1/2 pound) has 625 raw - with 455 from fat - and 305 cooked. It looks like cooking took away about half the calories. This fits with your 170 calories for 1/4 pound.

My guess that a cup is about 1/2 pound is based on the fact that I freeze 2 pounds of raw beef in 4 cup containers and not on actually weighing.

Thanks! Guess I'll go with the 4oz. cooked. Much easier than separating out a pre-cooked portion and having to cook twice!

Btw...congrats to both of you on your amazing weight loss Very inspiring!

Thanks! Lots of inspiration was taken from all the 3fc members. I'm not sure how one does this alone!
