Ezekiel breads
I posted over in the whole foods section as well, but can anyone tell me the benefit of eating the sprouted grain/live bread? I'm very interested! I tried a piece yesterday and I really liked it!

Ezekiel 4:9
"Wheat, and Barley, and beans, and lentils, and millet, and Spelt, and put them in one vessel, and make bread of it..."Ez 4:9 We discovered when these six grains and legumes are sprouted and combined, an amazing thing happens. A complete protein is created that closely parallels the protein found in milk and eggs. In fact, the protein quality is so high, that it is 84.3% as efficient as the highest recognized source of protein, containing all 9 essential amino acids. There are 18 amino acids present in this unique bread - from all vegetable sources - naturally balanced in nature." |
Oh wow, thank you K9!!!

I eat the cinnamon raisin one with 1-2 tablespoons of nut butter for breakfast, it's good! I just figured all the things in it were good and better than other breads, never really thought about the benefits.

I love the pitas. |
My WW leader talks about this bread all the time, so the last time I was at the grocery store I decided to check it out...
...and discovered that it was $7 a loaf. Yeah, no thanks. I don't care *what's* in it, there is no way I'm paying that kind of money for a loaf of bread. Wow. It's too bad, too, because I would like to try it...but honestly, that is just ridiculous, and it only reinforces the fact that corporations will totally overcharge for foods they KNOW people will buy just because they think they're a healthier option. To be completely honest, I always give the side-eye to products like this, because the inflated price always makes me question whether said product is just a way for companies to make more money, rather than encourage better health in people. |
Well the price probably is inflated, but so are all food products in the western world. Think of your 3 dollar whole wheat bread, it doesn't have much in it and cost little to manufacture, I'm sure the cost is equally inflated.
I don't eat a lot of bread, but I love peanut butter and toast so I buy a loaf of Ezekiel and stick it in my freezer and it lasts me a month. |
Snoofie - The price in our local store is $5. So check around. Now I know that is expensive, but nasty bread made of garbage is $2.50 per loaf on sale, and good quality bread of any kind starts at $4 where I live. I also keep it in the freezer and I'm the only one who eats it in my house, so I think it's worth it. So... shop around.
I do think food is getting very expensive, but in many parts of the world, people do not have the quality of life we have and they spend a whole's day pay just to feed their family. There are costs to manufacture, store and ship products - employees have to be paid, etc. So the ingredients in making a loaf of bread are only a fraction of the cost - don't get me wrong, I think plenty of it seems overpriced too. I shop sales, and make most of our food. I'm grateful to be here. We have options that most people only dream about. |

$7 is so expensive. I think it is $3.99 at the Trader Joe's where I shop.

Snoofie: You are on the right track! If you search online for recipes, you should be able to find some for Ezekiel bread - or a close facsimile. Have fun with your baking! I love it - very therapeutic, and yummy!

I have heard a lot about this bread. I want to try it.

This bread is amazingly good and good for you. It costs less than $3.00 a loaf here in NC Texas at the health food store.
I wonder if the manufacturer could do anything about the price in Nflnd? It freezes very well. In fact, it sold frozen here. I keep it in the freezer, taking out a few slices at a time, keeping them in the 'fridge until I use them. But, trying to make your own could be fun. |
I love this sprouted bread & so pcos friendly
I get the Ezekiel 4:9® Organic Sprouted Whole Grain |
Snoofie, you won't find it much cheaper in Newfoundland. I know I live there, too. Have you ever tried to make it? It might not be much cheaper by the time you buy the ingredients.
