Peanut butter for low carb?

I am trying to follow a low carb program but I absolutely love peanut butter, especially as a snack with celery. Is it okay to have a little peanut butter with a low carb diet? I did switch to Skippy Natural peanut butter and now avoid the sugary variety. At first I didn't care for it but now I prefer it. The sugary kind is just too sweet. I'm not the best at understanding "hidden carbs" and whatnot so any input would be appreciated.

I guess it depends on how strict you want to get........
Example: 2TBSP serving

Skippy Natural PB ...... peanuts, sugar, palm oil & salt
carbs: 6, fiber 2 = total net carb 4

Smuckers Natural PB......... peanuts, salt
carbs: 6, fiber 2 = total net 4

Regular Skippy PB
.....peanuts, sugar, hydrogenated vegetable oils (cottonseed, soybean/rapeseed)
carbs: 7, fiber 2 = total net carb 5

So when it comes to certain food such as PB you have to look at more then just the carb count like the ingredients in this case is more important.
IMHO Smuckers looks to be the better choice over Skippy Natural but if you're not worry about a little added sugar and prefer the taste better then Skippy Natural would be the 2nd best choice.

Sorry didn't mean to get technical but I watch my carbs also and had to start really looking at the ingredient list when it came to certain foods b/c the carb counts were either identical or extremely close. HTH and good luck! :)

It's ok to have if you say it's ok to have it! It really just depends on what kind of diet you've set up for yourself.

In my opinion it is acceptable (the kind without sugar) if it still fits into your carb counts (or calorie counts). I am also on a low carb diet however I don't count my carbs, I just cut out processed grains (bread, pasta and the like) and sugar. I allow peanut butter and I buy the kind with 2 ingredients only: peanuts and salt. I can't even stand the "regular" sweetened kind anymore, gross!

what if you try to make peanut butter yourself to avoid all the process ingredients? i magic bullet everything.. lol.. it may be a little more work because there is less shelf life but at least you get to see what is going into your peanut butter!

I'm a peanut butter fan. If I don't blitz it myself (which I usually don't), I buy the Trader Joe's crunchy unsalted peanut butter or I will buy it in a tub if I see it at a farm store.

It has one ingredient: dry roasted peanuts and my three year old who has been raised on only natural peanut butter LOVES it.
