Powdered Hummus
Today I found (at both WinCo and Fred Meyer) powdered hummus in the bulk bins. I bought a nice big scoop to make little servings for snacks, but I'm wondering if anyone uses the powder in recipes.

I bought several boxes of Casbah hummus, when I found them on sale.
http://www.naturalgrocers.com/hummus...98-p-8730.html I mostly used it to make hummus, but I also used it to thicken soups, chilis, stews, and sauces in place of flour or cornstarch. For example, I made an almost instant soup by pouring a can of V-8 or tomato juice (I like Spicy or Picante V-8) into a saucepan, adding a tsp of chicken base (bouillon powder), and some of the hummus powder to thicken. I've added it to petite diced tomatoes and italian seasoning to make a spaghetti sauce. I also mixed some of the hummus powder with mashed avocado and salsa or pico de gallo (sort of an instant guacamole/hummus/salsa). I mixed it with low-calorie mayonaise as a spread on a veggie sandwhich. |
thank you!
