The Peppadew Pepper...YUM!!!

Because I'm living in a foreign country, I decided to try one thing I've never had before each time I go to the grocery store. This week it was a jar of pickled mild Peppadew peppers, just because they looked sooo good from the jar!

THEY ARE AMAZING! They've got a banana-pepper like sour/sweet taste, only more intense, and extremely tender with just a touch of heat. They are soft, too, and don't have that crunchy/rough texture that turns me off of banana peppers. This is officially my new favorite food. They are fairly low-calorie and are good to add to pasta, sandwiches, etc - I've started putting them in my grilled mozzerella sandwiches!

I Googled it and apparently these are available in the U.S. but as a "gourmet" food item. Have any of you guys tried these before?

When I read the title of your thread I thought that you were talking about a drink mixture of Dr. Pepper and Mountain Dew--yuck.

I have never heard of these, but since I have never met a pepper I didn't like, I'll keep my eyes open for them.

LOL. Same here with the Dr. Pepper/Mountain Dew mix. Yuck is right!

I have actually been to Leiden years ago - even visited a grocery store.

I LOVE these (but because they are a sweet pickle, made with added sugar, you do have to keep that in mind, because they're so addictive the calories can add up - but still for the flavor a great calorie bargain).

It pays to check out a few of your local grocery store deli departments, and local delis for these because I've seen them in gourmet shops for as much as $16 per pound, and in regular supermarkets in the same town sell them for as little as $4 per pound.
