Looking for a light tahini dressing recipe

I could eat salads 3x a day with the tahini dressing that my husband's friend makes for us, but it is wayyy too high calorie. I've bought some tahini dressings at the store, and I haven't like any that I've tried so far. Does anyone have a light recipe to share?

I found this one at spark recipes. I guess if you wanted it as more of a dressing, you could add plain, light yogurt to make it a little creamier. Hope this helps!

1 15 oz chick peas
1 TBLS olive oil
2 TBLS Tahini
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup Lemon juice
1/4 cup water
3 large cloves of garlic (or to taste)

Directions
rinse chick peas very well to remove excess salt, place all items in the food processor and whirl away until it's a smooth paste.

This makes 19, 2 TBLS servings and should measure to 1 3/4 cups when blended.

Number of Servings: 19

Hot stuff, that's hummus! Mmmm, hummus. :carrot:

Here's a tahini dressing I like that isn't too over the top in calories.

1/4 cup tahini
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
4 T. lemon juice
1 tsp. salt
4 cloves garlic
1 cup water
1/4 cup oil
1/3 cup cooked carrots or potato or both (this adds volume and creamy consistency)
A couple of pinches of cayenne
(options: 1 T. agave nectar, 2 T. nutritional yeast, 1 scallion)

Puree this all, adjust seasoning and add water or vegetable broth as desired to get the right consistency and refrigerate. Keep in mind this will thicken as it sits.

So, I entered this into a recipe creator and a 1.25 oz serving (2 T. and 1.5 tsp., a generous serving!) has 74 calories, 6 grams of fat, 0.9 gram fiber, 1.8 grams protein. The recipe makes about 2 1/2 cups, 16 servings.

Wow, yummy! :carrot: I also have a bag of chickpeas destined for hummus, so now I can have my salad and eat my hummus too! Gosh, I'm hungry already. :hun:

Thank you both!

Fat Free Vegan has a really good tahini based dressing, it tastes a lot like Annie's Green Goddess dressing, which wonderful to my taste buds but not so much for my double chins.

2 Tbs of it has 19 calories.

what a coincidence...

... I just found two recipes in my files when I was looking for something else. The one posted above with cider vinegar sounds really good. I'm going to copy that one down, too. (um, I'm supposed to be purging my recipe files, not adding more! It's a lost cause...)

One of the recipes I found looks really heavy on the oil but the other looks lighter, from Prevention magazine. This is part of a recipe for "Middle Eastern Chicken Salad with Tahini Dressing" but I didn't save the chicken part. Looks like chicken, chick peas, tomatoes, parsley and celery from what I can see in the photo.

1/2 c. fat free plain yogurt
1 clove garlic, minced
3 Tbs tahini
1 Tbs lemon juice
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp coarse salt
1/4 tsp ground red pepper

You may also want to check the Asian section of your market. They generally have a refrigerated miso dressing that has a similar flavor profile.

Jen, will he give you the recipe? Would you share?

Then maybe we can modify it :D
