Hmm...for mine, I just have fun mixing together whatever fruits I have on hand. Nectarines/peaches are good with the berries. Orange/pineapple/strawberry is nice. Just a bunch of berries is, too.

For the best liquid base, I like unsweetened apple juice. That way you get enough sweetness, but it's not extra sugar like regular apple juice. Skim milk also goes well. I have one of those little personal 16 oz blenders - very handy, since you can also unscrew the cup and now it's your drink. So I just fill it with 8 oz of liquid and chock full of frozen fruit.

I think for me...as long as I just use frozen fruit and the unsweetened juice or skim milk, it turns out pretty low cal/low fat.

Super easy and creamy:

Low-fat or fat free plain yogurt
Frozen Strawberries (or any berries or other fruit like peaches)
almond milk (or skim or soy milk)

That's it. Of course, there are tons of variations, but why complicate a good thing? Having said that, I sometimes add a scoop of protein powder if using as a meal not a snack. Also, if you like it sweeter, add a bit of splenda or stevia to it.

Sorry, I don't use a recipe either. I usually throw in a bunch of frozen berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries) in the blender and after that is pureed I add some nonfat yogurt and sweetener (truvia for me, honey or sugar for my daughter). Then I add a little skim milk to make it drinkable.

However, the real reason I posted is that I just discovered that frozen mango (which I bought at Trader Joe's) is a terrific addition to the berries. It adds a creamier texture and more body as well as a natural sweetness. I have a bag that has been sitting in my freezer for a long time, and I never thought of a use for it before (d'oh!). I am going to experiment with reducing/eliminating the sweetener. My daughter, who doesn't really like mango, wanted seconds!

I will check out the possibility of almond milk too. Thanks for the tip!

I just normally do either a fruit or green smoothie and I tend to stick with one or two when I'm in a rush.

Green Smoothie Base Recipe:
1-2 bananas
1-2 cups of spinach or other dark leafy greens
frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, mango, pineapple...anything you like just put as much as you want)

The banana will sweeten it naturally and covers up the lettuce flavor. I basically just throw stuff into my personal blender, blend, drink...I don't put dairy, sweeteners or nut milks in mine. Just straight fruit and dark leafy greens. If I want it thinner, I just add some water or coconut water.

I don't know that it's super low calorie, but it's healthy food.

My favorite is frozen mango cubes (I prefer them partly thawed), about 1/2 a banana, a couple T flaxmeal, a little soymilk as needed to thin, and a little vanilla. It's like ice cream. It helps to soak the flaxmeal a little in the soymilk, it softens and gels up a little.
