Does any one have a favorite canned bean?

I usually make my own beans from dried but I just tried Ranch Style beans in the can and they were excellent. Does anyone have another brand they recommend or how do you doctor up plain canned beans?

I do not like any form of pork and beans...they are so mealy tasting to me!

you mean brand or type?

Brand, I'm pretty open on.

Type, I am pretty open on too... I buy lots of black beans, pinto beans, chickpeas, cannelini, butter beans, etc. I just make sure the ingredients are just beans, water and maybe salt. I rinse them really well before I cook them.

For a change I like S&W Carribean Beans, I dont remember the nutritional value, they are a mix of beans and have some peppers and seasonings with them.

I love chickpeas, roasted to almost nut texture, with olive oil and seasonings

New thing I found with dry beans, you can soak dried beans, then freeze them! Ready to cook, and you dont have to remember to soak them the night before. So you can buy in bulk a variety of beans rince and soak them all in one night, the next morning package them up in zip locks, label them with variety and amount and toss them in the fridge ready for chili, veggie burgers, salads, soups etc

azmom, I like my black beans and my chick peas..

with the chickpeas, I like making hummus! it keeps a nice long while too

with the black beans I like to use them to make "burgers"

good luck, i love beans in general--dried, fresh, frozen or canned..I always think of them when I hear someone say they cannot "afford" to eat healthy

Thighs be Gone,

How do you make black bean "burgers"? I love black beans and would love to try that.

If you google black bean burgers, there are tons of recipes. Here is a good looking one from my favorite website:

Mmm... that's an easy one: El Paso Fat Free Spicy Refried Beans! So delicious I discovered it when I wasn't even on a diet. It's even better than the regular version.
100 calories per 1/2 cup, 6 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein.

Pork&Beans. It's cheap, classic, and 110 calories with 1 g fat per 1/2 cup.

My favorite canned bean is pinto beans. I also like chickpeas, black beans are growing on me, and if I have a recipe that calls for another variety sometimes I go with that instead of subbing pintos, but in the end, I always come back to pinto beans. My favorite brand for pinto beans is Bush's, because they list the calories as only 80 per 1/2 cup. I know that there really can't be much difference in the calories between brands (I think maybe the other brands aren't subtracting the fiber calories--either that or Bush's is just wrong), but I still prefer to have the one that says 80 calories on the label.

For refried beans, I like Rosarita low fat black beans. Don't know why I like black beans better than pinto once they are refried (the calories are the same), but I do.

I've tried doing the dried bean thing, but it just never seems to work for me. The beans either come out hard or mushy, never just right. Out of the can is perfect. So if a recipe call for dried beans, I always sub canned beans. My blood pressure is practically too low anyway, so I don't care about the sodium.
