Fat-free feta cheese? Is it good?

  • Does anyone here eat the fat-free feta cheese? I am out of my Trader Joes's feta (which is lower fat than Athenos) but I wondered about the fat-free varieties. I think they sell a brand called Presidente in my grocery store. Any feedback would be great...gotta have the feta on my salads!
  • I get the fat free feta from Trader Joe's and I like it fine. I don't know if I would use it in say, a feta cheese sauce or any dish where feta was the primary flavor. I think the ff works for me okay as an accent flavor. It is milder that feta and not as rich, but it works for me.

Of course I do okay with lots of fat free products such as the cream cheese and sour cream, so take my opinion with a grain of salt!
  • I just tried the fat-free Presidente brand and thought it was awesome!

You all should try it...it rocks!
  • I thought it got moldy faster than the reduced fat...but that could have been the batch I got.
  • It tried the FF feta at trader joe's and it was no good. Very very salty ...and kinda nasty.
  • I've never had the Presidente brand. I have tried Trader Joe's fat free feta and couldn't stomach it. And I like most fat free dairy--fat free cream cheese, fat free yogurt, I like it all--in most cases I can't even tell that it is fat free. But not TJ's fat free feta. I get TJ's light chevre instead, which is about the same in calories but tastes much better.

But everyone's tastes are different and the Presidente brand might be better than Trader Joe's, so you might as well give it a try.
  • The Presidente brand is milder in flavor and not as strong/salty as Trader Joe's. I love them both and put them in EVERYTHING!!
  • Since my first post, I have been putting it in everything. It's almost time to get a new box! Fat-free and 30 calories a serving is to good to be true!!!!

Of course, it's yummy in salads, but tonight I made grilled tilapia tacos...I added sauteed onions and peppers and added a little of the fat-free feta on top. Muy Bueno!!
