Default Anyone ever used a yogurt maker?

I bought a Salton yogurt maker a few years ago and never used it. It seriously was still in the original box when I found it today. I can't believe I forgot about it. I would love to make some fat free yogurt and flavor it myself. Anyone ever used one? Do you have any tips or tricks?

I have an Easi-yo yoghurt maker and I love it to death!

I usually make natural greek yoghurt and it's so thick and creamy. I recently starting getting a no sugar caramel topping and adding it to the yoghurt and popping the lot in the freezer - instant "ice-cream" at a fraction of the calories. I can also get a no-fat chocolate topping for that choc fix we all get.

But yes, making my own yoghurt is quick, fun and low cost and tastes so much better. Plus you get all that good for you whey off the top.

I have used my Salton many times. The key is to get a good starter and pay attention to the temperature of the milk as you are heating it. You can serve it so many different ways - adding fruit, granola or cereal, sugar-free syrups, etc.

Give it a try - it is pretty easy to do.

A good quality yogurt from the grocery store. Just look for one that doesn't have a lot of additives - a good plain variety. Buy a small container and use the alloted amount as a starter. You can use YOUR yogurt as starter for the next batch.

If you want your yogurt to set up like supermarket yogurt add 1/2c dry milk to the milk you use for the yogurt. The extra milk solids will help it set up thicker.
